I have been playing around with Photoshop, and Nik filters. I wanted to show this little island, Tylö, in three different interpretations. In the first picture – in the header – it lies hidden in a haze, seen from the attic window of the hotel building.
In the second one, you see it in a B&W conversion, a bit old style, with only the sea in front and behind …
…and in the last picture, you see the island the way I did through my camera lens.
It is not the same picture, but the same island photographed. I would love to hear your thoughts and reflections: Which interpretation do you prefer? Why? What feeling/mood comes up when you look at one of these pictures?
Do you like to enhance/change your own pictures much before posting, or should they go as true and ”natural” as possible?
Wish you a great weekend!

I like the top one … through the window, love the softness in it. The other two??? Nothing wrong with the images, I think the color image is too intense in colors and the black and white, a depressing mood. I can play around with color images and make them B&W at times, not all images are suitable for that – reverse B&W can be very effective. Otherwise, I rarely play around.
I downloaded the Nik collection and got inspired for some hours😉
Good for you, since I join Gurushot – I think all the top images are altered to the max, but they are great. I think I should dare to play around a bit more.
Me too. I am too stuck in natural thinking most of the time.
I checked the program out … looking good, but very pricey, but I also get lost in all the different filters and adjustment choices. Struggling with Lightroom. I’m a ”keep it simple” girl. *smile – going over to UK now, but back on 9th .. then it’s time for a date.
UK or Ireland?
Both … flying in to Belfast, then Scotland and finishing of with a couple of days with friends outside Dublin.
Happy travels, my dear!
A-C, thank you so much … card will follow. *smile
Looking forward to it!
Interesting how each image has such a different feel, but I do like the vibrant and contrasting blues of the ocean and sky in the last photo
I guessed you would! Thank you!
I like the mystery of the first image. For a long time I thought my photographs should be natural, but in the last couple of years I have given myself permission to let go of that idea. I still don’t think an element like a sky should be changed to enhance a supposedly natural photo, but I love seeing how manipulation or enhancements can change how I see an image. I have been experimenting with various presets and programs other than Lightroom. Happy weekend!
I agree with you, Marie. Somehow I still have mixed feelings when I enjoy manipulating photos, but I try to think of it as a fun hobby, and when the results surprise me in a positive way – I like it. I believe it is the same with drawing and painting for example. Starting with sticking to reality will sooner or later bring your curiosity to work in other ways.
Have a great weekend!
Yes i also like to play with some images too. Of the three i like the black and white one best:-)
Thank you – B&W is popular tonight!
I also like the moodiness of the second image, and yet the others are interesting in their ways too.
Thank you for telling me – It seems moodiness is right for tonight!
I, personally, like the monochrome 2nd image…a journey into the past…but you might have guessed that!!
Yes, I might have guessed that;-D In fact I like it too. It reminds me of old films.
Yes!
