This hot and dry month is going to be the warmest since we started the statistics some hundred years ago. And there is no rain ahead…so as the lilacs and other flowering trees and bushes faded away these last weeks, I decided to photograph my garden – as long as it lasts.
Walk with me, and I will try to give you some pearls from my garden today.
My fallen and dying trees are all in front of the house. They are with me still – Birds are nesting in the old apple tree and the one lying down still gives us apples.
The old bushes with very tiny little roses are some of my favorites – given to me by the little man with the fantastic Dream Garden – now sold. (You who have followed my garden posts will know who he was.) From that dream garden I also have some rare and unusual tulips – see the header and the first one in the gallery below.
The lilies and poppies and other well known flowers live happily together on the other side of the house, hidden from the street. I like to think of it as a secret garden…(I truly loved that novel)
But the shining stars this week are the Irises. Under their massive canopy, you just cannot get enough of their colours and shapes – the intense green and the just as intense orange, yellow and lilac. Their every bud is a slender wonder in a sea of elegance.

Still so much beauty in your lovely garden. Love the irises and the tulips. Beautifully written and illustrated post. 😘
Thank you so much – warms my heart you liked it!
I love your tree and irises. My first irises opened today but they are no where near as impressive as yours. We too have had hot week, in fact v hot for May!
What kind of Irises do you have? And here the hot weather is killing all flowers now…
I have the same blue as you. Here too the flowers and many of the vegetables are not used to this heat in May – today it is a bit cooler and we’re having some light rain. But more heat tomorrow!
beautiful photographs. I do like your fallen appletree very much and those blue irises – my UK front garden was full of them.
Thank you – and I like my tree as well. Feel a bit sorry for it though…
Underbar tid vi har nu.
Det är det – men 5 grader för varmt för mig och mina blommor…
Lovely! Those irises are marvellous, A C
I am glad you like them, Sue. With this dry and hot weather I am afraid they will not last very long.
Yes, that’s a shame
😐
Inget annat i sikte heller. Jag är mest inomhus.
remarkable tulips indeed Leya – that flush of blue iris is a sight for the eyes! The older I get, the fonder of small roses I am ❤
I agree with the roses, indeed. Glad you liked the flowers!
Those irises are fabulous! I was in a garden yesterday where they had palest blue in full flower and a few of these darker ones. It’s damp and misty here today and the week ahead doesn’t look good, but we have had a share of the warmth and sunshine. 🙂 🙂
The sun will come back though! I will send you some♥
How big is your garden Leya. What gorgeous iris I love your phrase “slender wonder in a sea of elegance” it is the perfect description
Thank you – they really are lovely, Irises! My garden is 2000 square meters. Mostly grass, hedges, lilacs, bush roses and lavender. One flower bed with perennials. I am not good at outdoor flowers…but I try!
That is a lovely size, mine is only 80 square meters
And you manage to successfully grow all those plants! Amazing.
I love your old trees and I hope you get some good rain soon. We had some hothot days, then storms, now just averaged out into some sun, some rain, some breeze, the way it used to be. I refuse to believe in climate change in my yard, and it doesn’t happen here. I am glad!
I am glad you don’t have it – unfortunately we do. No rain in sight – we hope it will come our way before everything is gone…
lovely pics
Thank you very much –
