Wow! These are almost incredible, at their peak. What are they grown like this for? That seems a daft question, but they look past the point at which you’d think they’d have been cut.
Well, as I understand it, they never use the flowers here, they are grown for improving the bulbs each year – for selling!
I wondered if it was to strengthen next year’s bulb crop. I suppose you could not harvest the flowers without taking most of the leaves.
I guess you are right.
