Anne is our lovely host this week, and she asks us about the various types of weather conditions in which we photographers go out and shoot.
Well, we all look for nice weather, but what is your favourite weather to photograph in? Sunny, blue skies, white puffy clouds, or…?
I thought I would start with our weather conditions right now, today. Snow storm and rain storm this weekend…so, my camera and I are staying indoors. But some snapshots through the window will show you what it looks like.
The poor birds are sitting close to the walls in trees and bushes, shaking their feathers now and then, and snatching a nut or a sunflower seed when the gusts are not too bad… The feeder is on the top right in the gallery, and there is a blackbird sitting to the left in the same picture.
The ”real” winter is easier to photograph. Some winters are green and some are white – and terribly cold. The above gallery shows all stages of this. My problems with winter shooting starts with the cold – I have very sensitive fingers that will turn white and aching and finally stop working at a few degrees minus – and wind.
I agree with Anne – a favourite weather is fog or mist. I love the mood it creates, especially in early mornings, and I also love going out right after a summer shower has sprayed the leaves. Whenever there is morning dew – I rush to get my camera!
When storm or thunder is approaching, the clouds can be dramatical and calling for a camera, but I avoid going out in the rain. Even if my cameras nowadays are water sealed, I still avoid it – unless I can stand with some kind of roof over my head.
Finally, an anomaly in Sweden, but I went out to see it – a sandstorm from Sahara –
– in October 2017. Sand covered the sun and made the sky and everything else orange.

Your post for challenge reminded me of the day when so many colors, storms and events resulted in photos I actually stopped to take in 2017 as I drove home, from appx 50 miles away home, the long way. So many colors & seasonal expectations displayed or busted, all along the way from the warm to blue spectrum. Photos not as nice as yours – but, I will share the link, to what moment in time your post and the challenge reminded me of, for any who might want view (warning! No hurries, no worries, no need to visit, if ever. was just sharing some photos, I took all by meself, long ago – that aren’t as spectacular as yours, but I was shocked and amazed at the colors and contrasts and all, when I got home and actually viewed them on computer, from my ‘point and shoot – promised to be smarter than me camera of the time! LOL
Now I am back from a week ‘s vacation, and I want to thank you again! Beautiful contrasts!

Brrr… your winters are bleak. But snowy photos can be dramatic. The fog and mist images are so wonderful Ann-Christine, they are my favourites as well. We get a lot of fog here, but I have never attempted to go out and take any photographs as it is usually very damp as well. But you may have persuaded me to have a go.
Yes, in your beautiful surroundings I am sure the results would be atmospheric. Please do give it a try!
oh how I want to run through that flowery meadow. I know you look forward to that I na few months time as well. The photos from your window stopped me. So cold with grateful birds. I loved the crispness of the ice-covered branches, and I am always fascinated by icicles. I remember, as a child, watching to see if they had ”grown” more cold, or were dripping with the hopes of spring. A chuckle to see the people protected under the tree,. With he table, I think a cancelled picnic. A favorite for me has to be the droplets. So delicate, so carefully searched for, so you.

There’s always this sense of peacefulness and quiet contemplation with your photos. I’m too fascinated with your fog and droplets photos, my favourites this week.
Regarding your hands, do you have Raynauds? My mother and sister have it. I was lucky and managed to avoid it but still struggle with cold hands.
I guess it is, but never diagnosed. Painful it is, but not dangerous at least .

Beautiful photos as always. The one that leapt out at me was the one of the people sheltering under a tree in rain. Such a common human story, and taken in such a lovely soft light.

Beautiful images Ann-Christine! I’m not sure I’d want to be out in that snow storm. I think my favorite is of the sun turning the fog and mist a deep orange. That is lovely. Your sand storm reminded me of the wildfires we get in the Seirra Nevada mountains. As the wind blows the ash into the valley, we have a sky of tiny ash particles and it looks just like that–a red sky and glowing sun. Of course, it’s a stay inside day! Loved your post.

Beautiful response to the challenge, Ann-Christine. In that first winter set, the image on the lower right corner is stunning. All images are beautiful, and I especially liked the fog/mist photo set. The light was wonderful.

I’m with Janet, the fog and mist images are so wonderful Ann-Christine, they are my favorite as well. They are all marvelous though – the poor little birds in the icy chill, although I suppose perhaps they are used to it living in your environment. Although a beautiful sunny day is marvelous, for a photographer the worse the weather the more amazing the images! I did have a bit of a laugh at all of the men huddled against the rain I must admit!). And a sandstorm?! How strange!! I found your post truly enchanting this week – kudos!
