Vad kan vara mer fridfullt än denna morgon vid havet, mellan sex och sju, medan de flesta sover. Bara någon enstaka mås hörs, en gök ropar i skogen intill och ett dämpat plask hörs från en and med sina små.
What can be more peaceful than this early morning by the sea, between six and seven, when most people are asleep. A lonely gull, a cuckoo calling from the forest nearby and a silent splash from a wild duck hurrying away with her ducklings.

Jag älskar att titta på välgjorda klädedräkter och välregisserade skådespel. Veckans utmaning handlar om detta – Costume. I Scarborough med omnejd levde och slogs vikingarna under långa tider, kanske främst på 800- och 900-talet, för att slutligen kämpas tillbaka och få återvända till Danmark. Än idag utkämpas strider för att visa hur det gick till när England befriade sig från nordmännen.
So, Ailsa’s travel theme about costumes brought me back to the wonderful trip to Scarborough last year, and the old Viking fights there. The fighters and their women and children were all very well dressed – according to what we know about the Viking era, around 800-900, and the fightings are rather realistic and well performed. In the end the real Vikings were of course fought down by the Anglo Saxons and had to return to their countries up north, mainly Denmark, but there are still many Viking memories on the east coast of England.
Even the small children were dressed up and liked to participate in the adventure.
Stigar – vad är mer lockande i livet? Inte mycket, tycker jag. De lockar och drar, och jag vill bara följa dem och se vart de leder… Så många gånger tänker jag så, men nästan lika många gånger stannar det vid tanken. Säkert hade mitt liv varit helt annorlunda om jag oftare hade kunnat släppa på av tiden och bara följa… mina tankestigar. I verkliga livet också.

Ailsa on Where’s My Backpack? has a thrilling theme this week – again! The four elements, Earth, Air, Water and Fire. I have chosen pictures from the Nordic countries – Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

De flesta människor älskar förmodligen stränder, och kanske mest för sol och bad. Själv föredrar jag den ensliga stranden med plats för ensamhet och tankar. Plats för naturens skönhet och vågornas brus och någon mås som skränande svävar därovan. Och doften av hav förstås. Mitt galleri handlar nog mest om det.
Ailsa at Where’s my backpack? has chosen a very much loved theme for this week – beaches. Most of us love beaches, but I’m not a great fan if this means a lot of people. I prefer the sunny, lonely beaches with only the murmuring of the great waves rolling in and the gulls soaring, chattering white against the blue sky. Alone with my thoughts.
Dansen var mitt liv när jag var ung. Några gånger dansade jag med en professionell dansare – underbart. Idag dansar jag aldrig. Kanske på någon fest ibland, men annars inte.
Konstigt nog har jag nästan inga bilder alls på dans eller dansare. Däremot njuter jag av att titta på dans och balett, och filmer som Billy Elliot gör mig lyrisk.
Mitt bidrag får bli några bilder från Kina. Ett land där man dansar i parker och på öppna platser och gärna undervisar främlingar som vill försöka. Först ett vackert, äldre par och så dottern med en undervisande dansare.
Ailsa’s travel challenge is all about dancing. Dancing was my life when I was young. I also got the opportunity to dance with a professional dancer for a time. Nowadays I never go dancing. Maybe if a big party is going out, otherwise not. I love to watch dancing and dancers, though. Movies like Billy Elliot has me enchanted.
My dancing pictures are very few, so my contribution here is photos from our trips to China. A country where music seeps out from every park and dancers are everywhere. They are happy to show you how to do and give you big smiles when you succeed. First a beautiful, elderly couple, and then my daughter who also was taught by one of the dancers.
De äldre var mycket aktiva i alla parker. Inte minst med morgongymnastiken. Alla verkade mycket ”unga”, viga och mjuka i kroppen – vilket man naturligtvis blir om man håller igång med dans och gymnastik.
The elderly people were very active in the parks. I don’t know if we were fooled by them being so agile – but they seemed so young in body and soul.
Den här mannen spelade tennis med en boll fastsatt i ett snöre. Jag minns att jag hade något liknande när jag var barn. Han var en mästare på att få bollen att dansa – och tog flera danssteg själv när han träffade den med racketen. Allt, naturligtvis, till musik!

Efter att ha levt inplastad under några veckor var det idag dags att gå ur det ofrivilliga idet – samtidigt som Ailsas tema är Light – Ljus! Vilket sammanträffande!

Kontraster är ett intressant ämne. Mitt bidrag handlar om byggnader i olika storlek och form, mörkt och ljust, högt och lågt – och om religion, fattig och rik.

My personal interpretation consists of…contrasts. Buildings from different angles and in different shapes, light and shadow, tall and short, religion – rich and poor.
Bänkar är veckans tema hos Ailsas Where’s my Backpack? Det är viktigt med bänkar. De ska vara av trä – så att de får den där solvarma sommarmjukheten. De ska helst vara bekväma och dessutom vara vackert placerade med en avkopplande vy för den sittande. Men, i verkligheten kan bänkar se ut på många olika sätt och vara anpassade för helt olika människor. I franska Lourdes, som ju är en kurort av rang, finns bänkar som bara sjuka (malades) får sitta på.
This week’s Travel Theme is Benches. Many people truly love them – and I’m rather fond of them myself. At their best they are wooden and absorbing the sunlight so they feel warm and cosy…and, they should stand in spots important – in terms of comfortableness and beauty. The view is essential to people using the bench. In reality, there are very different benches to be found…In this little gallery there is a bench standing in the old health resort Lourdes, France – only for ”malades”.
