Finally – A Bright and Sunday Hike

My winter moodiness lifted today

10 degrees below zero (C) – a frosty, crisp and clear day!

Hiking for some hours – breathing and staying outdoors as long as…

…the sun was up

By 3.pm it is time to go home

As we turn back, the sun is setting and the rays are orange warm

The leaves of 2017 lingering still, basking…

I turn around for a last shot – and the forest is glowing. Soon only the highest tree tops. I cannot say how grateful I am for this day. Not to talk about Totti – rocketing through the forest, rolling in the cool frostiness, barking with joy.

Thursday Thoughts – Winter Solstice – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Today we will meet our daughter at the airport (bringing light to this day of darkness!) and this Sunday our son will come home. Days of joy and happiness.

An astrologer revealed that this year’s Solstice is different from others in the past, because for the first time since 1664, the Sun will move into Capricorn, some hours after Saturn makes the same exact shift; this will cause the Sun and Saturn to actually line up, a phenomenon which could have very uncomfortable consequences.

Personally, I do not believe in these consequences, but I do know this is the darkest day in the northern hemisphere – and then the light will return! So, my deepest gratitude to all of you out there who read, comment, or even follow me – you always brighten my day!

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

WPC: Serene

Ben asks us for a photo of Serene

Serene, calm and quiet. So valuable and so rare. So precious in this busy world.

My most precious – the sea and the sky at our summer house. Early morning, no wind, silence, blue sky, welcoming the new day.

Then – the Icelandic landscape, sunset on the south coast in winter. Earthy, low sky, settling the day.

CFFC: Letter O anywhere in the word

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Letter O – Needs to have the letter O anywhere in the word

In the header, one of my Phalaenopsis orchids, and above my friend Robin…

…and to finish it off, my snowy lagotto romagnolo, Totti!

Still Flowing Free…

The stone fence is as stone cold as it looks, dividing the larch fields that now have lost their soft needles.

But, it is not yet cold enough to stop the flowing water, and turning it into ice –

We are Waiting…

More Christmas!

More, more…of coziness – this time at Harastorp! Still rain, but at least warm by the fire…

This little friend I was terribly tempted to take with me home…

Isn’t he just adorable?

Christmas Market – Already?

Today a short visit to the nearest town and the first market this Christmas.

Raining…when there should be white everywhere…but we had fun anyway!

Many surprises awaited the children of course…and the sweets and almonds got bought  – and eaten – by grow-ups as well.

Indoors, first the main building and then the wings. A beautiful old mansion, once belonging to my husband’s uncle. Now, since many years belonging to the city.

Some hundred exhibitions with everything home made – from sausages and marmalade to clothes and candles. I always say I will not buy anything…but…

Monday Morning…

…woke me up to a glorious, frosty day.

The tulip showed off her hair frost…

…the Lady’s mantle unfolded her hidden gems…

and the old roses were still asleep, in golden, pink dreams.

A crispy, delightful day – who would think that of a Monday?
