This week we all love Colors – mine are water colours from a magic night at Plaza España in Barcelona.

Weekly Travel theme: Smoke and Mirrors
”Did you know that March 29th is Smoke and Mirrors Day? The origin of this day, which celebrates all things magical and illusory, is suitably shrouded in mystery, but what a great theme it provides.” Så skriver Ailsa på Where’s My Backpack ?- och visst håller vi med… Men bilder?
Pictures then…? Well, they will have to come from our neighbour country, Norway – they have got everything you need! This time from the little village of Elverum, and everything live:
Weekly Travel theme: Green
Ailsa on Where’s my Backpack? has suggested Green as the theme – and that’s what we are all longing for here up north! No green here yet though…but I was thinking, even Iceland (further north)has got green landscapes when the sun is a bit warmer. So, this is what we are waiting for!
Iceland has got numerous fantastic waterfalls, and green, green hills.
The giant lava streams are dangerous to walk on – you should not even try. The beautiful, green moss and lichen might hide gigantic holes that will send you down, maybe several hundred metres…
Sense of humour is not lacking on the island… who’s been mowing the lawn up there? Anyway, the result is a big green smile! Just what we need this cold, white spring.
Weekly Travel theme: International Women’s Day
Ailsa has decided on International Women’s Day as her travel theme this week to coincide with International Women’s Day yesterday .
I don’t have enough words to say all I would have liked to say about the women in this world. I admire so many strong women, but I also feel grief and sometimes hopelessness for mankind in its endless search for money and riches. So many times it is the women who are the losers and the victims.
For my entry I have chosen the two women closest to me, both whom I admire immensely. There should have been three photos, the first one of my grandmother, but I have no digital photos of her. She was the strongest of us all. A hardworking fruit and berry farmer with roots in the poor Sweden of the early 20th century.
The first photo shows my mother, who is a strong, beautiful woman. She has earned her own living since she was 14 and hasn’t slowed down yet… This photo was taken when we were on a hike Ribeiro Frío – Portela in Madeira. The trip to Madeira was to celebrate her 75th birthday.
The second woman whom I admire immensely is my daughter. A tough girl who went alone to New Zealand to work in a nature preserving project.
She was on her way a year earlier but had severe pain in and trouble with her joints. However, after a whole year, the doctors came to the conclusion that this was not rheumatism or any other feared illness – it was an infected elbow which she had to operate on. And, they also found out that because of her hard training and competing in gymnastics ever since she was a young girl, now her body simply couldn’t function properly without this training. So, when she started training again – she was as good as new. No pain, nothing.
This project in NZ meant hard work from dawn til dusk, in difficult terrain, bush and rainforest – all the time heavily loaded with tools like axe and machete. But she loved to work hard in this magnificent nature – prepared to do everything for the plants and the animals. She is determined to return some day.
So, to all magnificent women out there – stay strong, believe in yourselves and don’t give up even if life is hard on you. We have always had to struggle in a patriarchal society. Let us be there for each other.
Wild Weekly Photo Challenge: Black and White
I love to visit churches, ruins and old graveyards, so when the theme from LetsBeWild this week was Black and White there was no doubt where I would go…to Scarborough in England. Haworth and the parsonage, where the famous Brontë sisters lived, and Whitby with its Dracula setting from Bram Stokers legendary novel. My photos were not in black and white from the start, but it was allowed to change them for the challenge. So, walk with me in the footsteps of Stoker and the Brontës!
Here in Whitby Bram Stoker found a setting worthy of count Dracula, and in this graveyard Lucy was sleepwalking and sitting in the night on one of the benches high above the sea.
The Brontë parsonage with its beautiful graveyard… I could feel the prescence of Cathy and Heathcliff – their consuming love for ever alive in Emily Brontës masterpiece Wuthering Heights.
Weekly Travel theme: Roads
Ailsa’s Travel theme on Where’s My Backpack? this week is Roads. We all love them… they promise freedom and the excitement of the unknown… My own favourite road has got grass in the middle and is slowly winding into the green, lush forest a hazy summer’s morning. The road I walked today was just throwing off its winter cover, showing its gravel grey. That is beautiful too, and filled with promises.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Lost in the Details
My first contribution to being lost in details is from two temple walls in Gyantze, Tibet. Talking of details – so much time, effort and skill is put into this work.
The second one is from the Pothala Palace, the painted figures sitting over a window.

This is just great! How can you Not love New Zealanders?
Weekly Travel theme: Bridges
Ailsa’s travel theme this week is about some beautiful and necessary things: Bridges.
A bridge can mean many things… but my choices are mostly concrete and tangible ones – they are constructed by man. Only one of them is different…a celestial bridge.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Forward
Framåt!
The Weekly Photo Challenge this week is Forward.
There are many suggestions how to picture this theme, but I quite fell in love with this scene from a street somewhere in Spain. More than one thing is going – or looking – forward here…
