Omplantering som alltid vecka 8. I år blev jag tvungen att ta ner den ena av de stora monsterorna – den hade blivit alltför hög och ohanterlig. En gång tidigare har jag tagit ner båda två. Båda togs som sticklingar för ca 38 år sedan. Då stod de på min gamla arbetsplats i en stor samplantering.Nu finns inte min gamla arbetsplats längre. Eftersom jag träffade några av mina gamla arbetskamrater i helgen tog jag med stambitar med vidhängande blad till dem alla – ett levande minne av svunna tider.
I övrigt några av de orkideer som blommar just nu – och förstås min ryska begonia…
As usual my pot plants get some new soil and some grooming this week in February. But, this year I had to take down one of the big Monstera Deliciosas – it had grown to the ceiling. This weekend I happened to have dinner with some of my old friends who worked together a long time ago in the same building (it does not exist any more) where I got those Monsteras as cuttings, some 38 years ago…So, now I decided to divide my Monstera into big enough pieces to plant, and then hand them out to my friends. A living memory from days gone by.
Of course I have to show some of the orchids starting now – mostly phalaenopsis. In some weeks there will hopefully be more of them – two cattleyas are budding and more phalaenopsis.

Talk about having green fingers ….. that monstera – is truly a monster … this winter nearly every green plant has died for me … I don’t understand anything, but very upsetting. Got a new Monstera from Lidl – 59kr. Your orchids are stunning, haven’t manage to get any of mine to bloom. Maybe I lost the magical touch. *smile
I think you lost light! My plants are not as healthy this winter as ususal – no light, only grey.
I think that is the reason, but they also isolated my windows and my apartment has been so warm this winter … and dry.
Hopefully the new ones will survive my week in Stockholm, have moved them into the kitchen and away from the heating.

Tänkte på det igår…..minns att du roar dig med omplantering v 8. Mina orkidéer har just nu knoppar och vissa skjuter nya skott. En vit orkidé blommar med två ynka blommor 😉
Jag kanske ska göra som du….ge mina lite omvårdnad. Har stora murgrönor och den ena är så ljus och mager medan den andra är kraftig och grön och växer ohämmat. Vet inte vad som fattas den ena av dom….?
Hm….när du planterar om…innebär det då också att alla växter får lite större kruka eller får dom hålla till godo med sin vanliga?
Farmor tog alltid större kruka….men jag vill ha mina krukor….. Dom är inte små precis men dom är höga 😉
Kul att du vill ge dem lite omsorg! Vissa växter får större kruka, men de som jag inte vill ska bli större får inte det. Pelargonior till exempel. Ormbunkar vill ha större för att fortsätta vara vackra. Murgrönor är vackert! Den ena kan också vara en annan sort kanske? Står den i ett annat väderstreck och får för mycket sol? Ibland hittar man ingen förklaring bara.
För ungefär 48 år sedan hade min mamma en monstera som nådde nästan ända upp i taket. Den hade en stor lerkruka och såg ut att leva av nästan ingenting, men jag vet att min mamma pratade med och skötte sina växter med omsorg. De monsterorna som du har Leya, är mycket större!!!
Dan – du har inte kvar en stickling från den? Det hade varit roligt att se den. Denna lianväxt är mycket vacker tycker jag, och tålig. Jag förstår om din mamma pratade med den och fick den att trivas. Jag tror inte att de direkt säljs utan de kanske mest sprids via stamdelar.
Nej det har jag inte. Jag var för ung för att sätta värde på den där när den fanns i livet. Visste inte att det var en lianväxt och inte att den var som ett kedjebrev..hehe…annars ahde jag kanske räddat den. Menar du att de är ovanliga i handeln?
Inte så vanliga längre i alla fall. Ibland ser man dem i stora öppna samplanteringar i köpcenter eller så. Jag tror människor idag tycker att de är för stora och tar för mycket plats.

Oh, well, I love being in their presence! And I guarantee they have looked better…when I was younger I was crazy about plants and seeds – brought home from every country visited. I always pay a visit to the botanical gardens wherever I am. Now I even (sometimes) forget to water them enough. That’s one reason why I’m into orchids…
Plants are forgiving!
They are…If they survive. They usually do, and I don’t want to lose this one.

I only remember that you re-potted plants last year the same time! I remember it because our season is changing to autumn now although we are having very very hot days at the moment.
I see. So it’s very hot now? What does your little man say about that? My dogs hate it when it’s hot.
He just wants to be in the shade and pants away. He’s got something wrong with his lungs or heart and gets tired very easily so the heat affects him more at the moment. W just take it slowly when it is this hot – over 30 degrees!

When my dear grandmother passed away I took all her plants to my house, so they will go on living. She loved her pelargonias and treated them with much talking and re-potting and smiles. I try to do the same for them. Some of them are 40-50 years old. (Of course they are children’s children’s children a.s.o.)
Same here … this used to be the week for re-potting. Here, I have hardly any plants. There are no window sills. I had monstera too. My favourite was Mose Stentavlor [maranta] but it’s very difficult to get ahold of the regular type here. Most of them have all kinds of colours mixed in.

Green is lovely. I used to have only green plants when I was younger. Now I have all kinds of plants – love orchids and Hoyas.
Have you ever seen/heard of a plant called either Oxtunga or Elefanttunga?
Oxtunga is a wonderful wild flower in summer. Dark velvet blue/lilac. The other one I have as a pot plant.
The one I’m thinking of [I’m not sure of the name, I’ve heard both], has thick leaves, more rounded than Clivia. Every once in a while it blooms; one big ball of yellow fluff.
Yes, that’s right. I have it. Got it from my husband’s grandmother.
