What a lovely way to express this. I believe that is what really happens. What is the title and author?
It is a fiction book called Goodnight Mister Tom a children’s novel by the English author Michelle Magorian. It tells story of a boy, Will, evacuated to the English countryside during WWII. The passage relates to Will and how he comes to terms with his best friend death. It is a wonderful story – at times very sad, but beautifully told

Thinking of you Ann-Christine. Hope the day went as you’d hoped and that your heart can begin the healing process. She was much loved – which is all any of us can hope for.
The day went well, and I know that if she was there…somehow…she loved the music chosen and all the fantastic flowers…and all the love and peacefulness surrounding us. It felt so good seeing all her old friends there. The youngest 27 and the oldest 94. Many of them having difficulties walking up to the podium with the coffin. Life Is. ♥
I am so glad all was peaceful and as it should be for your dear mother. And how lovely to be surrounded by friends and loved ones of all ages.

Ah, sadly it takes a long time and even now, 25 years after my mother died, there are moments when I miss her.
