Lens-Artists Challenge #287 – Sound

Donna is our lovely guide this week, and she asks us for pictures that could show, or make you think of – sound. Personally, the sounds I love the most are natural sounds, from the wind in the forest or birds in the trees, the rustling of autumn leaves at my feet. And silence in between.

Listen to the sound of silence.

– Paul Simon

I don’t know about you, but, music is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear or see the word sound.

Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue.

– Plato

Imagine how many different sounds of music there are in this world! So many different instruments and traditions, melodies for feast and celebration – for dancing

or jubilation for a winning game, an exam or graduation.

Did you know that at least 70% of all communication is nonverbal and that body language is a major part of this? Surely you can ”hear” what our concierge was saying?

There’s many ways you communicate. With colour, texture, sound… Even words can communicate.

– David Carson

The sound of water is worth more than all the poets’ words.

– Octavio Paz

I guess many of us has a special love for this sound, be it the rough sea or slow waves, a raging river or a trickling, merry brook. Our souls are connected, because life was born in water, and we have all rested softly in our mother’s womb.

Personally, I will be on the road for a week now, but will try to keep up the reading and answering. Please remember to link to Donna’s post and use the Lens – Artists tag so we can all find you.

A big thank you to Anne for last week’s inspiring theme weather. In fact you showed us there were weather I had never thought or heard of…

Next week, we are excited to announce Ritva. She will host her first official challenge for the Lens-Artists, so don’t miss her inspirational site! Until then – keep warm and be kind.

  3. Ann-Christine, your photos are great examples of sound. I liked them all. In particular, I loved the ones that showed some type of action. For example, the musicians and dancers and the jubilation photo carry sound so vividly. Great post!

  4. whether pics are posted in silent share or short words to convey thoughts, or few pictures, lots of words – I’m right there with you on many fronts – but mostly, whether the sounds of music are heard with my ears, or play in my brain, while walking through a day of words, body language, nature, etc…. um, there is just the Music of Life Playing out – for me in so many ways/forms. Which is why, whether you post in silent share or more to read, as well – the music in my memories starts playing, everytime I read/view one of your posts… Thank you!

  5. A heartwarming post . . . what is more important than the sounds around one to give you peace or take the same off you! Living virtually in the country I glory in the sound of silence and hope for the gentler ones emanating from nature – soft breath of wind or cooing of a bird . . . And then man-made music . . . for me soft strings . . . a quirt quartet perchance in classic mode . . .

    • I am glad you enjoyed it, Eha! In fact I was in Nice last week on the carnivals – talking about sound…I met Viveka too, she has made a lot of PR for that carnival, and it surely lived up to it!

  6. So good Ann-Christine the silence of nature is my favourite thing as well. At the moment all is quiet outside except for a Coucal Pheasant calling with its descending call 🥰

  7. Love! When I was putting my post together I went to our local Musical Instrument Museum. Initially I thought it was going to be a collection of instruments to walk around and look at. What I discovered was as you said. Imagine how many sounds of music there is in the world. The museum was organized according to country and include traditional dress for ceremonies, in addition to the instruments. It was fascinating and there was a large experience room to try unfamiliar instruments. I spent a few hours there. Photos will trickle in over time.

I love the large face sculpture, and the concierge photo, but I am with you….nothing like the quiet of nature. Enjoy your travels, AC. A fantastic post!

    • Thank you, Donna, always appreciate your comments. I’d love to try that experience room – never had a try at that. And yes, thank you – we had a great week. But so much to answer and go through today when we came back!

  8. Beautiful as always Ann-Christine. Love the colorful celebration – you can just hear the sounds in that image! Also loved your closing image – Paul Simon’s Sounds of Silence is perfect for that one, which is glorious!!
