Färger från min trädgård i juni – Colours from my garden in June
Iris
Nu blommar både Paradisbuske och irisar – en ljuvlig tid i trädgården.
This week I enjoy my irises – their colour and grace is a feast for the eyes.
At the front of the house the Beauty bush (Paradise bush in Swedish! I do not know the English word ) is lavishly full of pink flowers. But, on the other side of the house the flower bed is vibrantly blue with irises.
När det gäller irisar tycker jag mest om när själva blomman inte är för stor. Särskilt förtjust är jag i den sort som har tigrerade gyllene mönster.
I love the species with not so big flowers, because the golden brown pattern on the petals enhance their beauty.
När skymningen kommer blir de än mer levande och den blå färgen alltmer intensiv.
When dusk is approaching, the flowers grow even more alive and vibrant.
And soon it will be dark…but they are still glowing – the irises. Iridescent.
Sveriges vackraste park – The most beautiful park in Sweden
Ronneby Brunnspark vann utmärkelsen ”Sveriges vackraste park” år 2005. Först nominerades 10 svenska parker. De skulle vara vackra, men också levande och tillgängliga. Sedan besökte en expertjury parkerna och tog närmare del av deras kvaliteter.
Juryn bestod av landskapsarkitekter, kultur- och trädgårdsskribenter, parkchefen från den kommun som vann 2004 (Örebro) samt representant för sponsorföretag. Totalt sex personer som innebar sex röster. En sjunde röst kom från allmänheten, som röstat framför allt via webb.
Ronneby Brunnspark blev inte bara juryns utan också allmänhetens favorit. Drygt 40% av allmänhetens röster gick till Brunnsparken.
Eftersom Brunnsparken vann utmärkelsen ”Sveriges Vackraste Park” 2005, deltog parken i tävlingen Europas Vackraste Park 2006. Brunnsparken hamnade på fjärde plats i konkurrens med parker från Italien, Tyskland, Storbritannien och Frankrike. Vann gjorde Villa d’Este, Tivoli, Italien.
Tävlingen hålls inte längre i Sverige.
In 1705 a spring containing mineral water was found at the western shore of the Ronneby river. This marked the beginning of Ronneby’s history as a spa resort. The water was drawn up into bathtubs for patients to bathe in and was bottled to be sold by the city’s chemist. In fact you can still taste the water from the hand pump by Gamla källan (the Old Spring).
In the late 19th century the Danish landscape architect Henry August Flindt was charged with the task of extending Ronneby Brunn. Flindt was assisted by the master gardener Henrik Madelung. Ronneby Brunn quickly won widespread fame for its diverse spa treatments, its fashionable hotel, its imposing park and the natural forest with viewing sites and bandstands.
Today Ronneby Brunn has a modern hotel, a bathing landscape, miniature golf, tennis courts, great relaxing areas…and much more. The fantastic park was nominated the most beautiful park in Sweden 2005 (this contest is not held anymore in Sweden) and was voted number four of all beautiful parks in Europe in 2006. The winner that year was Villa d’Este, Tivoli, Italy.
On our National Day, June 6, we walked one of this magnificent park’s four gardens – The Rhododendron Garden. Every summer we enjoy every garden here, and the others are: The Scented Garden, The Japanese Garden and The Rose Garden. The pictures from an earlier entry, ”Fleeting”, are also from this park.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Curves
Ranunkelsläktet eller smörblommor (Ranunculus) är enligt Wikipedia ett växtsläkte med omkring 400 arter (600 på den engelskspråkiga varianten…)som är spridda i nästan hela världen. De är fleråriga, har en kort jordstam som bildar sidoknölar och bladen är oftast handflikiga. De flesta ranunkelarter är fleråriga örter med gula eller vita blommor. Kronbladen är 3-5 stycken och har en karaktäristisk glans. Ranunkelsläktets arter är svagt giftiga. De flesta föredrar fuktiga växtplatser och många av arterna är vattenväxter.
Namnet Ranunculus betyder liten groda, och syftar på att den trivs på fuktiga växtplatser. Ranunkler odlas också som prydnadsväxter, och då är blommorna fyllda, vilket betyder att många av ståndarna är ersatta med extra kronblad. Det är den odlade varianten på min bild.
Who or what could have more curves than this wonder – the Ranunculus? The flower is one of my absolute favourites and is found in numerous colours. This bright yellow/orange is among the most striking ones.
Ranunculus is a large genus of about 600 species of plants in the Ranunculaceae. Members of the genus include the buttercups, spearworts, water crowfoots and the lesser celandine. The name, Ranunculus, means ”little frog”, and this because it prefers growing in humid places.

Trädgårdsvisning – Garden show
I söndags åkte jag med en väninna på trädgårdsvisning. Vädret var inte det bästa, men trädgården var mycket fin. De flesta azaleor och rhododendron var överblommade, tyvärr, men det fanns annat att titta på. Bland annat fantastiskt fina små lusthus. The bamboo hut blev min favorit…

Att vara humla – Being a bumblebee
Det finns ca 250 arter av humlor i världen. En vanlig myt om humlor är att de enligt fysiska lagar inte borde kunna flyga, och att det är en gåta att de flyger ändå. I verkligheten karakteriseras humlans flykt av en oscillerande vinge, som mer påminner om ett helikopterblad, än en flygplansvinge. Utöver det skapar humlevingens form och rörelsemönster en luftvirvel precis ovanför vingen och den gör också att humlan får ökad lyftkraft.
Idag har jag tillbringat säkert en halvtimme med att titta på en mängd humlor som flitigt jobbade och samlade pollen i azaleor och rhododendron hos en arbetskamrat. Snabba är de, så de få foton som humlorna verkligen fastnade på är med i detta lilla galleri. I regel visade bilden bara en blomma och möjligen några humleben redan i luften när jag klickat…
There are over 250 known species of bumblebees, existing primarily in the Northern hemisphere, but they can also be found in South America. Bumblebees have been introduced to New Zealand and the Australian state of Tasmania.
According to 20th century folklore, the laws of aerodynamics prove that the bumblebee should be incapable of flight, as it does not have the capacity (in terms of wing size or beats per second) to achieve flight with the degree of wing loading necessary. It seems their wings work more like a helicopter. They also start a swirl in the air above the bee which makes it easier for the animal to take off.
So, they do fly…and they are fast! I spent maybe half an hour today at a friend’s house, trying to catch more than his beautiful azaleas …but, mostly I got just the flower and som bumblebee legs lifting when my camera had finished clicking…

Mors Dag – Mother’s Day
Mors Dag – Mother’s Day har vi firat idag i Sverige. Blomman framför andra i vår familj är liljekonvaljen. Varje år sätter jag denna dag en bukett på min mormors grav. Hon älskade liljekonvaljer.
Min egen mamma får andra blommor, eller en flaska med något gott. Av barnen (ungdomarna) får jag numera ”bara” en kram och ett grattis. Studenter är fattiga…men rika på kärlek.
Mother’s Day was celebrated earlier in May in other parts of the world – but in Sweden it is today. My grandmother always loved Lily of the Valley, so she still gets them from me every Mother’s Day. My own mother is given other flowers or a bottle with something tasty. Myself, I tend to get greetings and hugs…students are poor but rich in love!

Stigar – vad är mer lockande i livet? Inte mycket, tycker jag. De lockar och drar, och jag vill bara följa dem och se vart de leder… Så många gånger tänker jag så, men nästan lika många gånger stannar det vid tanken. Säkert hade mitt liv varit helt annorlunda om jag oftare hade kunnat släppa på av tiden och bara följa… mina tankestigar. I verkliga livet också.
