Cultural Café

We wanted to visit the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, but it was closed and a veritable construction site. I was dying for a nice cup of coffee along with some cultural events…but the building seemed totally abandoned.

Nothing wrong with a construction site…if you can find a place like this when you step down into the underground..

A slight drizzle, and my stomach was making sounds…but when we had totally given up on this place and walked down some steps to get to the street again – suddenly there emerged a big window with BOOKS. From nowhere. Nothing with books can go wrong, so we opened the door and stepped inside…

…a café! A place reminding me of my university years with not too expensive coffee’s, nice company and working in two’s or more. My eyes and spirits went up and I just took it in…..feeling the coziness and the warmth instead of the by now rather chilly, hostile weather outdoors.

We stayed for an hour at least and left with big smiles on our faces ;-D

It went on drizzling – but we felt good all the way home! Keep reading! And…some tea is OK as well…

There is Still Time…

There is still time…to live and love the last days of summer. There is still time…to remember the softest moments of nature’s glory – the morning walks and the evening light. Little things…little creatures. Let us rejoice.

WPC: Repurpose

Repurpose – a good thing to do! My daughter´s remake of an old Encyclopaedia Britannica.

She knows my love for books and would never dream of throwing away any kind of book.

Travel theme: Indoors

This was a tricky one for Ailsa…I really am short of indoor photos. I guess I am just an outdoor person.

Nevertheless, this book store in Rome I find an irresistable indoors…and then, well, all of you who are dog lovers know what happens when you are sitting peacefully in that certain place…In (the) door suddenly appears a familiar face …”Oh, there you are! Just wanted to check…” (Quote, Mille)

Cosy

I went to a gallery today, Dunkers in Helsingborg, to see the exhibition on Vivian Maier – a brilliant street photographer. More about her tomorrow…

When I passed by an open  door, I saw there was a room for children to play in. At the far end was a giant bed full of cushions and roses, and there they had snuggled up…to read about the world’s strongest and most kind little bear – Bamse. I wish I could have snuggled up there too.

Bodil Malmsten is dead

The much loved, Swedish poet and writer Bodil Malmsten is dead. Two hours ago I heard it on the news. She was in her seventies only and a brilliant thinker and poet. I cannot say how sad this day is – no more poems, books, subtle humour or new thoughts to look forward to. She had such a crisp and different look upon things…something we all needed. Many of us has got her last book by our beds today.

Media is filled with personal memories of her and people’s thoughts of what she has meant to them. She said herself she was not afraid of the big secret – what happens after death. She also said about her cancer: Why not me? Where many of us would think – Why me?

I guess I should not ask – Why you, Bodil. But I do.

Photo book on The Garden of My Dreams

This summer I had the opportunity of visiting and taking photos in the most beautiful garden – the garden of my dreams. The owners, Kerstin and Kjell-Arne, have travelled the world to collect many rare species, and are always working hard on their dream.

I cannot say how much I appreciate being given this opportunity – and all the chats about the forest and its inhabitants whenever we see each other. Be it hiking or a short visit in their garden.

This year, their work was more abundantly rewarded than ever. So they said, and I believe them. They know everything about plants and different species and Kjell-Arne is also an ornithologist with many years’ experience. You who follow my blog might also remember him as – ”the little man”/”den lille mannen”.
