It had to be a flower – from every angle. Because sometimes you cannot even imagine what difference it will make…

SL – WEEK 9: School
Introduktion to a new school involves playing and games to get to know each other and to learn how to trust each other. This photo is from the first day at our school, last year, last autumn 2014.
Another Challenge
A challenge from Otto vM…the idea is to break as many of these ”rules” as possible. Here’s mine for the try! Conclusion: It seems impossible to break them all in one photo…but many are possible.
1) Focus on the centre of interest.
2) Fill the frame with the subject.
3) Do not shoot between 10 am and 3 pm (the light is too harsh).
4) Don’t shoot against the light.
5) Hold the camera steady.
6) Follow the rule of third, e.g. 1/3 sky and 2/3 land or vice versa.
7) Obey the light meter.
8) Photograph children (or pets) at their own eye level.
9) Avoid lens flare when shooting against the sun.
10) Keep the camera level with the horizon.
Before I get to the challenge, I need to tell a saying we have in Scandinavia about the differences between the countries when it comes to rules. Do you know what separates Swedes, Danes and Norwegian from one another? The Swedes follow the rules, the Danes don’t give a damn about rules, and the Norwegians break the rules.
As the good Norwegian I am the challenge will be in accordance with my inherent being: How many of those previous mentioned rules can you break in one picture? Like last time, post a link to the photo here in a comment, and I will pick up the photo and showcase it in a later post.
Sweet Painted Ladies – Sgraffito Part II
Guarda and Ardez – pearls of Engadin
These two genuine villages belong to the area of Engadin in Switzerland- stretching from the Maloja pass to Zernez. More about them and the technique in sgraffito I.
Ardez is the other painted houses’ village using the sgraffito technique –
Maybe not as beautiful as Guarda, but let’s take a closer look at the details…
I loved their way of doing this! Carefully put together, leaving the window clear.
Water fountains in every open area. And, the windows of course.
Then, walking along the main street, this house really stood out from the others…
Some of the paintings want a restoration, but for the most part they are well preserved.

SL WEEK 8: On the Road
Art On the Road. Being a language teacher, I am a great Lover of Words. Making art with words demands certain skills as well as practicing, practicing and again – practicing.
In New Zealand they love making life on the road more fun. And they are very skilled…
Hopefully you will enjoy these as much as I did during my stay there in 2011!

WPC: Today Was a Good Day
Today was a good day – a good topic from WordPress. Hopefully the good days will uplift us all! Click here for more of them.
I had a day out in the garden, enjoying the few flowers I have left right now.
A cold spring and summer has not been the best for any flower, but finally the begonia is on its way…A closer look at her showed a little guest snuggled up close…
To my great joy, I also found the first flower for this year on my Passiflora – Passionflower. I adore this colour.
I went inside to get something to eat, when one of my old friends called. I hadn’t talked to her for some time – too much to do in spring and now – vacation. She suggested I come over this afternoon, but I was in the middle of fixing things in the garden and wanted to come tomorrow instead.
Impossible.
I was so looking forward to a chat, that I worked as fast as I could according to my plan, to be able to meet up in the evening instead. And so we did. We decided to go to Hovdala and the lake for a walk and talk. Of course I brought my camera – there might be excellent light as the sky was clear and the air warm.
