Travel theme: Delicate

So, I’m late, but Ailsa’s Delicate maybe is not too late! And, the flowers in my garden – for them, resting and waiting is a delicate matter…

Travel theme: Stone

I love stones. Ailsa’s theme this week lets me love them openly… Franz Josef’s Glacier and Fox glacier in New Zealand was a paradise of stone and ice. I could not make myself leave it…in fact we were all enchanted and stayed for a whole day.

Travel theme: Brown

When I was young, brown was my favourite colour. I wore earth coloured boots, jeans and sweater and a light brown leather jacket. But, over the years, I have started to wear more colourful clothes – at least during summer.

The colour brown is all around us. It’s the colour of earth, where we come from, where we live, from where we get our food and in which we will end up in due time.

I still love this colour and all its nuances and shades. I know that many people don’t like it, maybe even hate it…please don’t! The brown earth is a part of us all. It belongs to us and we belong to it.

Travel Theme: Deep

The worst walk in a spiral staircase – ever – was made here, in one of the towers of Sagrada Família. It was so narrow and impossible to see the end of it from above. It was a mere deep hole in which I was to step down. Elevator up. Staircase down. No banisters. I’m not afraid of heights, but I often dream of getting stuck in narrow tunnels or holes and getting nowhere. This was a nightmare, but I made it.

Barcelona och Pyrenéerna 2011 210

This deep crater is to be found in Iceland. We never walked down, as we realized it would take some time, and the view is much more scenic from above.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA”We never have much snow down here in the south of Sweden.” This no longer seems to be a fact. We do – have much snow! In 2010 we were totally snowed in and it was impossible to even get the car out. This is the view from my back door. I couldn’t open it and I couldn’t see but a small part of our ”veranda”.

Travel Theme: Height

Ailsa at Where’s My Backpack? urges us to show something of Height. My entry is taken from the train ride to Tibet over the great plateau in the Himalayas. For more about Height – click here.

The Tang Gu La or Tanggu Pass  is a wide mountain pass over 5000 metres elevation used by the Quinghai – Tibet Railway to cross the Tanggula Mountains. On August 24, 2005, rail track for the Qinghai–Tibet Railway was completed 28 kilometres to the WNW of the highway, reaching 5072 meters (16,640 feet)—the world’s highest, 255 m higher than Cóndor station, Peru.

We travelled Peru 1987 and Tibet 2009 – both fantastic adventures. I had the great luck of catching this sign, Tang Gu La, from the train window. We were never allowed to go outside for photos, and the train rarely stopped anywhere. The compartments all had extra oxygen. The feeling is not possible to describe or explain.

Weekly Travel Theme: Relaxing

We all need relaxing…and these are my entries from our family! If you want some more of this, click here.

Travel theme: Through

Through – open for many interpretations! Ailsa’s travel theme had me thinking about finding one natural through and one manmade through. Here are my choices:

Barcelona och Pyrenéerna 2011 518Through a hole in a giant, a fallen tree in a valley in the Pyrenées.

Barcelona och Pyrenéerna 2011 389View through the giant windows at Salvador Dalí’s museum in Figueras, Spain.

Travel theme: Multicoloured

I chose only man’s work this time. Nothing beats Nature, but these buildings and works of art are… multicoloured too.

Travel theme: Hidden

Hallands Väderö 2013 038

På vår ötripp till Hallands Väderö upptäckte en av eleverna denna lilla huggorm. Väl gömd i det skyddande gräset låg han och solade – säkert född detta år, för han var inte så stor.

A student found this viper, hidden in the grass, sunbathing, This is a very seldom seen snake, and the only poisonous one in Sweden. Being very rare it’s a protected species.

More hidden things can be seen here, at Ailsa’s place.
