Travel Theme: Outdoors

For Ailsa at Where’s My Backpack? I have chosen my home outdoors – close to where I live. I spend most of my time walking there.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: This Land is My Land

As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.
I’ve roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps,
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.

Of course Cee’s challenge must be applied on my own country and land – Sweden.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Serenity

Serenity. Only the word – and it’s already beautiful…

Blue and crystal white in winter

Colours from a lonely bridge in autumn

On darkness

November. How dark can it get? The sadest month of the year up here – grey, foggy, drizzling, cold. Every day is a mental struggle. And I do. Struggle to cope with it.

In younger days I used to love Autumn. To snuggle up with a cup of tea and candle light. As the years go by, I find it harder every time to enjoy this season. And November is a month I would love to see wiped out of the calender.

I need light in my life. Tonight there must be some remedies…

Walking Totti in the drizzle – on the look out for some LIGHT and colour …Here we go!

A glimpse of bright green and yellow between the dark trunks lead me up to these beacons. The last months have been extremely warm in Sweden. Flowers are not totally lost and some trees are still wearing some green and yellow finery.

Mushrooms are always a joy, and these pretty ones grow en masse, sitting close to each other on the fallen trunk. Keeping warm. Snuggling up.

Looking closer, they are all little wonders. Like fancy fans or the soft ears of a cat.

Back home again I compare a golden leaf from Ginko Biloba to the mushrooms – they are very much…the same structure. When you come close.

I send you all some sunny Cheers – for you who are lucky to live in the light, and for the light that’s coming back to us next year!

Travel Theme: Arches

A late night walk in Rome. More arches than in The Colosseum is hard to find.

Walking home treats you to some stunningly beautiful bridges over the Tiber. You never want that soft night to end.

Travel Theme: Autumn

Autumn is here, and most of the colours are gone. Bright flowers still during daytime but at night, in lamplight, the trees are still golden.

More autumn is to be found at Ailsa’s!

Gdansk, Saint Bridget and Sopot

On our way to the railwaystation, we just had to visit the Church of Saint Bridget (Swedish Sankta Birgitta). Maybe it doesn’t look much from the outside – but inside – you are filled with awe.

Destroyed, rebuilt and restored – this church is, and since the 1980’s associated with the Solidarity Movement.

The silence and the crystal air was fascinating. The windows the only source of light in here. But that is enough.

Everything serene, and the altarpiece is planned to have only pure amber in its decorations. Together with red, white and silver, this golden amber art had me standing in total silence and contemplation, head uplifted, for at least 30 minutes.

Walking towards the railway station, autumn showed its true colours.

And then – Sopot next. The summer city of Poland with 40 000 inhabitants. An old health resort with the, always terrible, water which should be good for you…

By train back to Gdynia again – a soft and lovely evening. We found our Stena Line ferry, heading for Karlskrona.

This was an amazing and unexpected adventure – close to home, but with totally unexpected outcome. To be recommended!

Autumn Dew

I’s raining. Not much sun these days, so when it doesn’t rain – we go out. Totti is not much of a man for wet weather…open the door, he sticks his pretty little nose out, turns around and snuggles up in his bed. ”I can wait…”

Whe we do go out, the air is dewy soft and trees and grasses are all in pearls. In the forest, there is a dim light between the trees.

In the open, there are many different spiders and many different webs – depending on where they live and what they want to catch.

Maybe the wheel spiders are the ones we love the best – or at least those are the ones we firs recognize.

Everywhere on everything growing, you will find them. Pearls, necklaces, ethereal. When the sun shines through, they are almost lost to the eye…

…especially in the grass on the ground. But now – they are visible, beautifully intricate. And many!

From a different angle we can see how thickly woven and how close (3-4 cm ) to the ground. It must be quite impossible for a moth or a fly to get detangled from this…

On our way back, the sun finally came out and the misty dew lifted – no more spider’s web to be seen! Instead the few autumn colours shone – the spindle-tree being one of my favourites.

And back home again – my last garden flowers this year. Glorious in the sun.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: The Color Blue

The colour blue for Cee’s challenge – what do we think of more than the sky and the sea? To me those two represent Blue.

In the first photo is the dark blue sky with ”fireflies” from spring, and in the second one – the light shimmering , glittering sea of this autumn.
