Weekly Travel theme: Statues

Grave yards are some of my favourite places for taking walks. At Highgate Cemetary in London I can walk for hours in the calm and peaceful athmosphere. The statues are all very beautiful here.

This sleeping woman was found under the ivy last year, and totally intact, in one piece of marble. She had been sleeping under the ivy for decades.

This dog is another faithful friend, just like Bobby, sculptured to stay with his master or mistress beyond death.

Vår i luften!

Spring is in the air! Mille and Totti are crazy with joy, they play and run and fight…they definately don’t want to stay indoors…Mille turned 12 the other day – but no sign of age there…maybe a tiny bit more tired in the mornings, but fiery outdoors as usual. Totti is more modest, but extremely playful  when Spring feelings hit him!

Ese’s Weekly Shoot & Quote Challenge: Inspiration

Anne Frank once said: How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. This is something as inspirational as it is important to realize…

As Ese wants to know what gives us inspiration, I immediately thought of our day in Lund last week – visiting the Science Days where lecturers at Lund University introduce science students from the whole of Sweden (and their teachers) to new scientific research. Inspirational indeed!

Here are two of them that I was fortunate enough to listen to. The first one was about trees (of course I had to listen to this one!) and sustainability, and the second one about dogs and other predators being heat-seeking missiles. They are able to track down their prey not only because of the smell, but also because of the heat the other animal is radiating. The scientist photographed the dogs and other predators in infrared, and tried to prove his theory that their noses are kept cold (using an intricate system in their heads) so that they can find their prey through feeling its heat. He was clearly going to succeed in proving this, because he had already trained dogs on heated pots – they could easily pick out the warmest pot of them.

One Trip EVERY Month Challenge: Östersund and Maria

Marianne has begun a new challenge where you take one trip every month, near or far, and take photos or write all about it. Join her here http://eastofmalaga.net/2014/01/20/new-challenge-one-trip-every-month/

Here’s how:

  • Each month, visit somewhere and then write about your trip or describe it using photographs – whichever suits you best.
  • Don´t forget to title and tag your entry ’One Trip EVERY Month Challenge’, and link back to this page.
  • Display the Challenge logo on your post or in your sidebar.
  • HAVE FUN!

I should have gone before Christmas, but a storm closed down all transportation in the southern part of Sweden. My flight was cancelled only a couple of hours before take-off. I was finally going to meet one of my blogger friends, Maria, living in Östersund up north, and I can’t say how disappointed I was. And Maria too. We had been planning this for about half a year, and we both laughed in the phone at the disaster …there was nothing else we could do…

I had to book another flight – not until February was it possible for us to meet. I was looking forward to a lot of winter, snow and fabulous walks on their big lake, Storsjön. The trip turned out to be … something quite different, but maybe not less wonderful!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Family

Family – those who you feel closest to. Mostly your own family, parents and children. My entry is my beloved dog, Totti, his ”girlfriend” and his first puppies. It was exciting to see how well they got along, at first the little ones felt a bit scary to him, but later he was more confidently curious. The puppies adored him and were very curious from the start. Maybe they know somewhere that they are kin – I would like to think so.

I suppose I don’t have to explain that Totti and Mille belong to our family too?

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Preoccupied

Preoccupied...no one beats Mille when he finds some water AND snow! Being an old water dog from Romagna, he has not forgotten his origin…He’s ”fishing” with his paws and dips his beard and mouth into the water to catch bubbles – or whatever he sees in there.  This weekend we finally got some snow and both dogs and the whole family celebrated outdoors with long walks and great joy!

Travel theme: Possibility

There’s always a possibility that we finally will have some snow this winter…

It would slow Totti down a bit…

…so I can outrun him!

For more and other possibilities, go to Ailsa’s place!

Christmas 2013 according to Mille and Totti!

Waiting, walking, waiting, eating, walking, waiting, eating – and finally sleeping! Sorry, forgot that we were being awfully much cuddled as well…!

Greetings, Mille and Totti!

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Kind and Caring

Kind and Caring – here are some lovely friends of mine! Visit Cee for even more kindness and caring!

Travel theme: Winter

So far this year, there is no real winter here in Skane, Sweden – there is no snow. There is not even frost and it’s not remotely close to zero degrees C. Last year is another story…winter was upon us in early December and lasted for several months, in fact it was one of the ”worst ”winters ever when it comes to snow, cold and endurance…

I will have to use those lovely memories from last year, Ailsa, to really show Winter.
