Architecture and Giant Amazons

Den Blå Planet (The Blue Planet) opened in 2013 in Kastrup, a suburb of Copenhagen. It resembles a whirlpool when seen from above, and was designed by Danish architects  It covers a total of 12,000 m2 (130,000 sq ft), including the 10,000 m2 (110,000 sq ft) building and 2,000 m2 (22,000 sq ft) outdoors.

The Blue Planet contains about 7,000,000 litres (1,500,000 imp gal; 1,800,000 US gal) of water divided into 53 exhibits. In the first year of existence, the aquarium received approximately 1.3 million visitors – twice as many as expected.

Den Blå Planet 387_copyJust as the architecture is special and artistic, so are the giant freshwater fish from the Amazon. Look at those metal scales…and the intricate patterns on its head. Arowanas.

Surely  man can never compete  with nature in architecture.

Travel theme: Creative

I am working on a photo book for my parents, and came across this old photo…Some years ago there was a competition about recycling milk Tetra Paks, and my son and daughter immediately wanted to participate. Here is what they came up with. Sowing together all these by hand…Emma wearing the dress and David photographing and editing.

Not very comfortable…but they almost won the whole competition – second prize in Sweden!

Being creative is always great fun – click here for more!

Thursday Thoughts about Den Blå Planet, Denmark

Living in a bubble…Usually I am happy to live in My Own Bubble, my little world where I can shut out all the wars and disasters in this world and focus on the good things in life.

Sometimes I am happy that others live in their bubble and I can watch them, enjoy their beauty…from a safe distance.

Bubbles are useful, aren’t they?

SL-WEEK 36: Women

Sylvain Landry – Women. International Women’s Day.

In the header – The old and the new China.

Young Chinese girl of today

Rome – a connecting nun.

My mother, here 79 years old. Still hiking, still curiously looking forward to things…

A woman – not passé even if she is ageing.

Travel Theme: Early

Getting up early you will often be greatly rewarded. Silence, Only You, Magic in the air.

The Lark has Arrived –

They say the lark has arrived in Skåne – the southernmost landscape of Sweden. That is where I live, but I have not heard her yet…Every year they come early, trying to be the first ones to find a place to nest…and every year some of them will die – when winter will not let go. Nesting on the ground is dangerous in any case.

That is the way life works. You have to be brave and take risks in order to succeed. Migrating birds, people who have to leave their home countries in order to survive. But we all have to face this – maybe not risking our lives…but still.

And Winter has not loosened his grip, yet. We are patiently waiting…all except Totti. This is his season, his temperature, his joy. Lagotto Romagnolos do not come with a zip…

SL – WEEK 34: Trees

Sylvain Landry. My favourite theme…Trees. They are an important part of my life. In fact…in many ways they represent  Life to me. My Silent Sunday entry from my ”own” forest, should have been my entry here…but I will have to pick another one.

From the Pyrenées – a hot summer long ago…lovely hikes and my daughter in a tree.

In Between

Rain, sun, snow, storm, sun, rain, and snow again.

A couple of days ago we had all of this on the same day, and then – One Glorious Day. I will take you for a walk that day…if you want to!

There was heavy frost in the early morning – but the sun promised a lovely winter’s day.

Some miles from home, all frost was gone – the sun had been working hard.

Inside the forest though, in the shadows, it was still very cold. I had to put on my gloves for taking photos.

Do you remember the hair frost? This is even a whole hairbrush!

Lake Värsjön is a lake I have never visited before – and it turned out to be a little gem. Lovely paths to walk and the ice like a painting.

The sun was very strong and made it difficult to even look at the ice. No sunglasses…unfortunately. I did not know I would visit a lake!

And, I found a tiny beach – but the water is not hot here…like in Iceland. So, no bathing!

Instead I enjoyed the silence and the warmth of the sun, listening to the creaky sound of the ice breaking up.

Time to return home for breakfast – to make scones, celebrating the joy of having the rest of the morning for my son and myself.
