Travel theme: Gardens

Gardens – how can I resist? Once again I will have to show Ronneby Brunn – once chosen as the most beautiful garden in Europe. It consists of many gardens – let’s have a walk together through some of them!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object

Object – what’s an ”object”? The WP challenge this week made me choose a useful object, an object that I like, portrayed on the most beautiful summer’s day.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Walk 100 steps or less and take new photos

This I have never tried before – taking photos almost where I stand right now. 100 steps, I think this  little tour was about… 40? But, tonight there is a blizzard and I hear it roaring. When I had walked the dogs, about 6 pm, I’d had enough and stayed inside. So, indoor photos then – and only a quick look outdoors …

Tiger lily standing proudly in my window. It’s always in flower this time of the year.

It’s getting dark, so I turn on the lights in my other rooms. But, the days have grown longer and light is still lingering when I’m back from work.

Now I’m going to open the door to our garden – the wind should be hiding behind the house today if my calculations are right…

No walking on the roof today though… Last time we lit the fire for a cosy evening, the smoke sneaked in instead of out. The ladder was left there just in case…

Weekly Travel theme: Birds

Birds are magnificent creatures – and who would not want to be able to fly? Birds are generally difficult to catch on a photo, but sometimes I’m lucky. Some of my best opportunities for photography was at Walsrode this summer, where I had a wonderful day together with my dear old friend, Anita, at the worlds’ biggest bird park in Germany.

So, Birds is the travel theme, and I will mix Walsrode with my own garden and Scarborough.

And I can assure you… Håkan sounds exactly like a duck…Totti loves him. When Totti was newly arrived 5 years ago he had a ”Håkan” in his mouth – a toy rabbit. Unfortunatley Mille got hold of Håkan several times and there wasn’t much left of him after some weeks. Finally Santa brought Totti a new Håkan this Christmas! What joy!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

In Madrid there is an excellent park with interestingly pruned trees –

Madrid Segovia Toledo 2012 947 – I couldn’t resist taking a look inside...

Madrid Segovia Toledo 2012 956Even if the light is difficult, it was an interesting view!

The most beautiful…

Brändaholm is said to be the most beautiful place in Sweden for allotment-garden cottages. What do you think?

It’s almost impossible to become the happy owner of one of those 45 cottages, because you have to live in Karlskrona. Most cottages are inherited or sold privately.

Doftträdgården, Japanska trädgården och Rosenträdgården

The Scented Garden, The Japanese Garden and The Rose Garden. I have to give you a tiny hint of their beauty as well. So, we are back in Ronneby Brunnspark. Follow me on the walk, and you will catch a glimpse of the little lake and the flea market as well! Let’s start where the gulls are sitting, pass the pondering horse (Bäckahästen) and stroll for a while in The Scented garden first…

Sveriges vackraste park – The most beautiful park in Sweden

Eftersom Brunnsparken vann utmärkelsen ”Sveriges Vackraste Park” 2005, deltog parken i tävlingen Europas Vackraste Park 2006. Vann gjorde Villa d’Este, Tivoli, Italien.

Tävlingen hålls inte längre i Sverige.

In 1705 a spring containing mineral water was found at the western shore of the Ronneby river. This marked the beginning of Ronneby’s history as a spa resort. The water was drawn up into bathtubs for patients to bathe in and was bottled to be sold by the city’s chemist. In fact you can still taste the water from the hand pump by Gamla källan (the Old Spring).

In the late 19th century the Danish landscape architect Henry August Flindt was charged with the task of extending Ronneby Brunn. Flindt was assisted by the master gardener Henrik Madelung. Ronneby Brunn quickly won widespread fame for its diverse spa treatments, its fashionable hotel, its imposing park and the natural forest with viewing sites and bandstands.

Today Ronneby Brunn has a modern hotel, a bathing landscape, miniature golf, tennis courts, great relaxing areas…and much more. The fantastic park was nominated the most beautiful park in Sweden 2005 (this contest is not held anymore in Sweden) and was voted number four of all beautiful parks in Europe in 2006. The winner that year was Villa d’Este, Tivoli, Italy.

On our National Day, June 6, we walked one of this magnificent park’s four gardens – The Rhododendron Garden. Every summer we enjoy every garden here, and the others are: The Scented Garden, The Japanese Garden and The Rose Garden. The pictures from an earlier entry, ”Fleeting”, are also from this park.

Trädgårdsvisning – Garden show

The bamboo hut blev min favorit…

A garden show this Sunday was a real treat despite the weather. No sun, but great flower beds, a wonderful bamboo hut and an elusive cat…
