On our way to the railwaystation, we just had to visit the Church of Saint Bridget (Swedish Sankta Birgitta). Maybe it doesn’t look much from the outside – but inside – you are filled with awe.
Destroyed, rebuilt and restored – this church is, and since the 1980’s associated with the Solidarity Movement.
The silence and the crystal air was fascinating. The windows the only source of light in here. But that is enough.
Everything serene, and the altarpiece is planned to have only pure amber in its decorations. Together with red, white and silver, this golden amber art had me standing in total silence and contemplation, head uplifted, for at least 30 minutes.
Walking towards the railway station, autumn showed its true colours.
And then – Sopot next. The summer city of Poland with 40 000 inhabitants. An old health resort with the, always terrible, water which should be good for you…
By train back to Gdynia again – a soft and lovely evening. We found our Stena Line ferry, heading for Karlskrona.
This was an amazing and unexpected adventure – close to home, but with totally unexpected outcome. To be recommended!
This time the challenge is ”Refraction” and what that means to me. When I was a child this was enigmatic – and I think it still is. Even if I understand the phenomenon, it’s still great to see it – every time. Even in the smallest formate – not to talk about rainbows…
A short trip to Gdynia and Gdansk – the container ships in the Gdynia Harbour for Ailsa’s Bountiful!
Soon the colours will be here… but I’m sending you some late summer pictures from last weekend. I just have to.
We went back to our summer house for two days to visit an old friend. He now had to sell his house because he is too old and weak to keep it up. No relatives at all to take care of it – or him. This kind man has been here, walking our grounds, and often offering ice creams and his selfmade cakes, ever since I first came here in 1975. He’s seen our children grow up and he’s been more or less an institution here. No summer without Torsten.
This summer he did not show up. We had seen it coming, but no one wants a summer to be the very last one. His sister, Elisabeth, who is old and fragile too, told us he couldn’t manage visitors…he was too ill to leave his bed. We offered him a car ride to come out to us, but no.
And I walked where he used to walk, and I saw the lonely houses and the last, fragile flowers.
I walked by the sea and went to see my other old friends…the dogs and the horses…
Through the woods back home again…in thoughts.
…and then the dragonflies came. We watched them together, Totti and me.
Crouching, keeping their slender bodies close to the warm stones, catching the last warming rays of the setting sun. And their wings shone like golden gems.
When the thin rays no longer could reach us, we passed the gate to go down to the shore, Totti and I. He knows me so well. And I’m so grateful to have known you, Torsten.
The colour blue for Cee’s challenge – what do we think of more than the sky and the sea? To me those two represent Blue.
In the first photo is the dark blue sky with ”fireflies” from spring, and in the second one – the light shimmering , glittering sea of this autumn.
Contrasting colours makes the picture pop – Join in Cee’s challenge!
Red and green
Yellow and violet
Ailsa at Where’s My Backpack? is now inviting us all to the theme Edge. These two guys and the lonely man on the pier are all standing…very close to the water. On the edge. I’m not too fond of standing on the edge when it comes to heights – I would rather stand a comfortable metre or two behind…
