Maria guided me to two wonderful waterfalls, Ristafallet and Tännforsen – the two of which I had only seen in summertime when I was young. During winter they are maybe even more beautiful, enchanting and enigmatic. Like something from the famous Swedish illustrator John Bauer or J.R.R. Tolkien. For more facts about Ristafallet, click the link to Maria’s post: Ristafallet
Even more beautiful was Tännforsen, the largest waterfall in Sweden, when frozen into spectacular formations. The falls are iIlluminated in the night, but we visited in daylight. The path down to the water was very slippery and we had to use spikes to get there.

Avslutningsvis besökte vi ett litet iskapell vid Tännforsen. Mycket stämningsfullt och vackert – en plats att gifta sig på.
Finally we visited a chapel here, built in snow and ice. Very beautiful and popular to get married in.

A-C, so beautiful .. but I just love everything with snow and ice .. the more the better. Stunning photos. The color of the rivers ice is just like the icebergs in Antarctica, mint green .. so beautiful. If I ever get married … this chapel is perfect for me. Don’t have to go the Ice Hotel. Truly beautiful. Truly impressive post in more than one way.
Thank you so much, Viveka! I found it marvellous too, the ice.
I think the winter brings so much beauty … but also problems, like with any beauty. *smile
I didn’t think the photos could get any better, but these ones top the others! How amazing to be married in the Ice chapel! The frozen waterfall must look incredible when it is illuminated. The ice formations remind me of a frozen lady with long icicles for hair! So glad that you posted this.
Mmm, I’d love to see it illuminated too, but it is so gorgeous with the icicles – I can see the hair you are talking about!
Frozen waterfalls … I would love to see … so fairytale like Ann Christine .
The Ice Chapel is wonderful ..
It was really wonderful for me too, Poppy!

Wonderful photos! I love the beautiful frozen waterfalls, but that chapel is so amazing. I can just imagine how wonderful it would be to get married there, in spite of the cold. 🙂
If I were to marry again – I think it would be there!
How beautiful! I would love to see this for myself someday.
Just give me a call when you arrive!
🙂
Stunning images! I’ve spent a lot of time in Jämtland, but never seen Tännforsen. I was basically in Åsarna and that area all the time.
It’s a remarkable feeling to be inside those ice buildings!
It is. and not as cold as you would think.
Such beautiful scenes – I’d love to visit your country some day to see all this for myself. Thanks so much for sharing.

You’re so welcome, Alison! Give me a call when you’re arriving!
FASCINATING stuff !! – I could never have imagined a frozen waterfall, Ann-Christine!
Come and visit!
So beautiful in white, It must be unbearably cold. Beautiful photos of the chapel!
Thank you, Amy – but it was not very cold at all. only about zero C!
The frozen waterfalls are so beautiful! And also the chapel. Thank you so much for also writing your post in english. 🙂
Iris, I’m glad you liked it! I started writing in English as well last year, and sometimes I forget to write them in Swedish now…
Oh my…..:)
😉
So beautiful but how cold it must be.
Yes, but well dressed and wearing good shoes it’s so well worth it!
Indeed.
