Christmas Market – Already?

Today a short visit to the nearest town and the first market this Christmas.

Raining…when there should be white everywhere…but we had fun anyway!

Many surprises awaited the children of course…and the sweets and almonds got bought  – and eaten – by grow-ups as well.

Indoors, first the main building and then the wings. A beautiful old mansion, once belonging to my husband’s uncle. Now, since many years belonging to the city.

Some hundred exhibitions with everything home made – from sausages and marmalade to clothes and candles. I always say I will not buy anything…but…

  1. Just wonderful pictures and post, Anne -C. Makes me feel a little bit more Christmasy. But then I feel so hot today, we have just had a Spring and I have been lulled into a state where I forget how hot the weather in summer is…. but it was a joy to see Sweden preparing for winter. That lovely mansion with its fantastic old stove! I would have spent quite a bit of serious money on items there, even though I have sworn off buying xmas decorations……

      • YES! I would also like those red carpets!!! What a lovely market! And that Christmas feeling in it.. so real! I love old-town of Riga in Advent time. Similar- all small shops at a market so festive!

      • Nice to hear! We left Riga 3 and half years ago but meant for only 3 months 🙂 It’s not like we don’t love Riga, we do, but our girls need nature and fresh air to grow up 😉 Than… we can move back in Riga 😀

      • Good thinking. I would never live in a city with small children. But, many people do not have the opportunity to live in the countryside. Your family is lucky!

  2. Wow något för mig som är jultokig. Var alltid och tittade på julmarknader när jag bodde i Skåne. Har även varit utsällare några gånger sedan jag flyttat till Rottne. Numera målar jag bara till vänner.
    Trevlig Helg

  3. What fun! I love Christmas and the Christkindelmarkt just opened in our town. I couldn’t go as I had to work, but we’ll go at least once or twice before Christmas. When we lived in Cleveland, we had a family of artist close to us. Several months before Christmas, they opened part of their home as a shop, carrying the most wonderful Christmas things from Europe, the US, and elsewhere. I miss them.
