In the header, the grand Aqueduct of Segovia, Spain. A picture where you cannot ignore the importance of shadows. For Tina’s challenge this week – Shadows.
Shadow owes its birth to light.
John Gay

Even the tiniest creature/ thing displays a delicate shadow when there is light enough

And as you move, your shadow moves with you…

In the late evening… the shadows make us a delightful pair – the cherry tree and me

The fence, in Riga, Latvia – one of my favorite pictures ever

Some flowers look their best in the shadows of other flowers in my garden

The golden browns of the dunes become enhanced by the shadows

…and the trees provide soothing shadow while they thrive and reach for the light
Thank you to Tina for a lovely challenge, and a homage to the importance of shadows.
Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides.

Such a clever, and beautiful, interpretation 🙂 🙂 That viaduct certainly casts a long shadow.
Thanks you – In fact I loved Segovia so much I had to take my husband there as well!
Awesome! All very pretty…
Lovely photos Leya.I like the fence with the trees particularly.
Thank you, Gavin! One of my favorites too.
It’s a lovely shot.
The tiny Praying Mantis and the dunes are my favourites A-C 🙂
Mmm, thanks!
That praying mantis shot is ace. Wow 👌
;-D I like him!
I admire your choices for this challenge, Leya. And… this line is one I read over a couple times… so lovely
“the trees provide soothing shadow while they thrive and reach for the light.”
♥ Thank you!
Such a varied collection and I would never have guessed what looked like a brown brown pile of wood was dunes.
;-D
Wow! A stunning collection, A-C. I love them all, but my eye keeps returning to the aquaduct and the desert. A lovely visual treat and the quotes are perfect.
Thank you very much, Patti! So glad you are pleased with them.
Nice take on the theme this week Leya – and I really liked the tree (as noted above)
Thanks very much!
All lovely, but I particularly like the one of the cherry tree and you. It reminds me of an illustration in one of the childrens books we have.
That was my favorite too
Now that is an interesting reflection. I always thought this shot looked like a painting or an illustration, but do not recognize it from somewhere. Could you tell me the title of the book?
The Book is called – ”Small (it’s not easy being a little sister)” by Jessica Meserve. No illustrator is listed so I am assuming author is also illustrator.
Thank you for taking the trouble! I will try to find it!
I found it via Google now, and I just Love the illustrations. So naive but delicate and detailed. Just the kind of illustrations I love the most, because they remind me of my childhood in my grandmother’s garden. And there were shadows and trees… – thank you very much for guiding me to it!
Your more than welcome Leya. It is a great story too.
I will try the library first!
Those trees at the bottom are quite something, A-C, but I think my favorite is the whot of the aqueduct. Those Romans were quite the builders.
janet
Yes, they were excellent builders. No nails or cement…and they last for thousands of years!
What a lovely take on the challenge, Ann-Christine. Your cherry tree looks amazing! 🙂
Thank you, Dina. We planted a cherry tree for Emma and a plum tree for David. That cherry tree is very big!
❤️
Loved your post from start to finish A-C. The images are wonderful especially your fence with trees and shadows. And your closing quote is perfect!
Thank you very much, Tina – a lovely challenge!
Such a beautiful shadow collection. The shadows of the grand Aqueduct of Segovi is stunning! Love the The golden browns of the dunes shot. 🙂
Thanks, Amy! My husband thought the dunes were a pile of compost bags…
Ohhh, the dunes look like a pile of papers, or a really thick book! Splendid! And all the rest too.
Thanks, Manja! My husband thought the dunes were a pile of compost bags…
Oh sorry, he’s a Praying Mantis….😳
He is…but maybe a grasshopper in disguise…
Haha!
Ah, some great shadows! Love the delicate grasshopper-shadow, the fence in Riga and those dunes, especially!
Thanks, Sue!
I love the shadows cast by the first picture of the grand Aqueduct of Segovia.
Thank you so much – it is a remarkable place and remarkable architecture!
Lovely interpretations of the challenge. I liked the one of the fence and the one of the praying mantis. My son had one as a pet years ago.
Thank you – the little one is walking on my daughter’s hand. She worked as a volunteer for some months in New Zealand. So you can have one as a pet? Wow!
We found them at our house but you can also buy them from some online gardening supply stores. They eat pesky kinds of bugs.
Wow… at your house! I think they are very interesting creatures.
