We left a sunny Seattle and sailed north to Ketchikan. A town with only 8000 inhabitants, but

– The Salmon Capital of the World.

And indeed we saw salmon…lots of salmon. The river was teeming with life, but fishing bears were not in sight, in fact that tour was cancelled due to heavy fog.

Instead we watched seals catching salmon when we walked along the charming Creek Streat.

The lovely old bus was a must photo.

And, of course we left the harbour in sunshine – we hadn’t seen a single ray earlier that day.
Love the vibes of small towns like this, so peaceful and it seems like time passes in a different pace altogether.
It does. I live in a small town myself, but this one was even smaller.
You make me want to revisit!
Haha, another time of the year…we had much rain. We knew about it, but when it made them cancel the bear trip – I was disappointed for several minutes. We will never have another chance.
Wow, salmon! Great photos of your trip! 🙂
Thank you, Amy – we had fun watching them roll around with fish in their gaps!
A shame about not seeing the bears (I’d have been very disappointed about that) but the seals must have been fun to watch and I love the light in your last photo!
Thank you, Sarah – and yes, you can imagine my disappointment…but, as you say, we enjoyed the seals. And we got so close to them, I guess that would not have been possible with the bears.
Creek Street looks good, and love the old bus! Shame about the bears….
Yes, it was a good tour, but I really wanted to see the bears…
I know…..
What an interesting looking community with all those houses on stilts. Great photos as ever.
Charming it was, colourful houses and boardwalk – and the action in the water!
Great photos,.
Thank you!
Creek Streat is very charming indeed… did you also taste the salmon ?
Yes! Delicious!
A tour I hope to take one day. Lovely!
You would love it. We thought it lovely despite the weather and a cancelled tour. But, go earlier in summer if you can.
Thanks. Good to know.
Good !!! The salmon had a peaceful day and the water photos are terrific 🙂 !
♥
That would have been a lovely day. Pity about not seeing bears catch salmon though. 🙂
It was a lovely day despite everything…but my first disappointment lasted for some minutes…We knew the weather would not be good, but, from there to cancelling was a great leap…
If you have appropriate clothing then sometimes it can be an adventure
It can – and it will be what you make of it.
