A gallery of faces I will remember from Greenland. From Ilullissat, Kangerlussuaq and Nuuk. The poor musk ox was unfortunately dead, but we saw two in real life…very far away though. I got them in my binoculars, but the camera didn’t make it good enough. On the plate we had them every other day – and they were delicious.

Such characterful faces, and with an ethnicity that stands out as being different from most Europeans. Is Greenland even in Europe? I’m not sure?
I had to look that up. Greenland voted to withdraw from the European Economic Community in 1985—but its people retain their EU citizenship rights. If only we had retained ours…
Ah, I did not know that. And yes, I can see there’s a problem or two there…

It’s not Europe. And these people, the Inuits, are all related to the far northern peoples in Alaska, Canada and Russia.
I guessed as much. They’re more widely spread across the planet than we in the UK tend to realise. Curious, I looked up Greenland, and this is what Google says ‘Geographically, Greenland sits on the North American tectonic plate, making it part of North America. However, geopolitically and culturally, it is closely tied to Europe’ Make what you can of that!
