My Thursday Thoughts connected with WPC: Bridge.
A hope and a wish for all countries to continue their work – to stand united, bridgeing all disputes – to save our planet Earth. A Swedish meadow in its summer glory – is it not worth preserving? May the Love of Mother Nature be the Bridge for us all.
A windy and rainy day, we visited Cobh. Somehow the weather seemed appropriate.
The little seaside town of Cobh, with 13 000 inhabitants, has got one of the world’s largest natural harbours. Cobh was the place where most of the Irish emigrants left for America during the great starvation 1844-48. More than 1 million people died when the potato harvest failed (mildew) and by 1856 2 ½ million people had left Ireland for America. Not until 1930 did the Irish stop leaving the country – due to the Wall Street crash.
Cobh was the last stop for Titanic before her Maiden voyage across the Atlantic. Titanic entered Cobh harbour April 11, 1912. 120 passengers had bought their tickets there – hoping for a new and better life overseas. April 15 she went down after hitting an iceberg. I guess everyone knows she was a White Star Line ship.
Today there is a museum where the White Star Line’s terminal was. Down in the harbour there are mosaic tablets with memorials of those who embarked from Cobh that day. Even if we all know the story…this is a very special place to visit.
In glorious evening light, no wind, and a summer softness in the bird cherry scented air – we heard him…the Nightingale. This long, cold and dry Spring unveiled its soft heart and let Totti and me enjoy the first taste of summer. And my son turned 25. A blessed day.
Earth Day. I listened to her, as I do every day, but as this was a very special day, I walked with all my senses, even more intently listening…
Planet Earth is mostly water – the Blue Planet. Today was a lucky day, because the blue was clear and intense – in the skies as well as in the water on the ground.
And the tiny wood-sorrel made last years’ leaves look green and fresh again…
…maybe not all of those leaves were that lucky, but slowly drifting in a fresh pool is beautiful as well.
Like the clouds. They all meet here – the sky, the clouds, the earth, the trees and the water.
We all belong here…to this planet and in this world and in this universe…
I believe all of us know…and my best friend knows it too. He felt so good today, running around, bathing and frolicking in the leaves…
Howling when he was told we were walking again…
So, this day, Earth Day, has been a beautiful day of belonging and pondering about what we have and how grateful we all should be.
We are not here forever…only for some short moments we can dance in the light. Let us take good care of each other, and of our Planet Earth – we want our children and grandchildren to feel this gentle belonging and the joy of life…and above all, it really is the animals’ and the plants’ planet, isn’t it. They were here first. We are responsible.

As a teenager, my son´s happiest moments were in the big bowls of Malmoe skate park. I have been there too, just to see him enjoy, jumping Over me!
The very last shimmering hours at Sacha Lodge, we spent canoeing again – and finally, for the sunset over the Amazon, in a high tree tower up in a giant kapok tree.
Let us start with the canoe ride – full up with fresh food and ready for the last adventure!
Finally we reached the last path, hiking to the old kapok tree.
Slowly the sun was fading and the light smoothened out both the landscape and the minds of us six friends sitting in the kapok tree. Each one in his own world…knowing this was the last day, the last hours of our great adventure. The Amazon saying its goodbyes…and us contemplating life’s beauty, in this moment in time
No words needed – only the sounds of the rainforest. A sadness and a joy, a thankfulness and a hope for this wonder to survive, to be given to our children and grandchildren.
In the early morning, we left this Paradise. Of course it showed its most glorious face this day – for us to treasure and to keep in our hearts.
Sacha Lodge will go on helping the locals with free water taxi, school supplies and a medical assistance program – and ecotourism to positively influence the course of land management in the area.
On reaching the Napo River again – a tiny, but clear rainbow appeared in the sky –

I had just left my daughter at the airport, and decided to drive home on winding, tiny roads unknown to me before. And I got what I secretly had hoped for – I had a cow adventure! Are you a cow lover too? Follow me then!
There is a slight chill in the air…even though the wind still is soft and warm.
But, I can feel him coming…
Because the sky is crystal clear…
…and the colours are changing into a golden glow.
There is a stillness in everything, just before his gentle steps …heading straight in our direction. Let us glow – Autumn is coming.
