Weekly Travel Theme – Hot

Temat för Ailsa den här veckan är het. Själv hade jag inte haft något emot en het sommardag vid havet just nu…Vi har ett antal minusgrader och sol, dock. Underbart efter allt grått och regn. Mina val för temat handlar inte om behagligheter, utan verklig hetta. Något att se upp för och njuta på behörigt avstånd…

Ailsa’s travel-themed photo challenge this week is Hot. I wouldn’t mind a day on the beach right now, but unfortunately… It’s freezing cold with sunshine though – and I’m thankful for that. We’ve had such grey and rainy weather for several weeks and this reflects my mood too. My work is consuming me at this time of the year and I’m neglecting my family and friends as well as myself. But soon, soon there will be a break around Christmas when the lights will warm me up and the laughter of my children and my friends will give me new life.

”Some like it hot”, and my choices for Hot are just that – HOT.

Island har gett namn åt sprutande hetvattenkällor – Geysir heter sådana över hela världen. Den ursprungliga Geysir har numera inga utbrott längre, men den ligger kvar där på Island, helt stilla. Kanske, kanske en dag att den vaknar igen…

The original Geysir, from which all geysirs have their name, is still there on Iceland, but resting. Maybe one day he will wake up again… Strokkur was the one most active when we were there.

Mudpool, NZ

Lerpölarna är ljuvliga. Jag funderar alltid på om de förekommer i någon Bondfilm…Det vore ett utmärkt sätt att avliva någon skurk på – kokande lera?

Mudpools are great. They are beautiful and fascinating, because they change all the time while you are watching them. I always think of James Bond…hasn’t some bad guy been thrown into a boiling mudpool? Maybe it’s only wishful thinking…

People actually live with this heat in their vicinity. These waters used to be a well visited spot for the children of the village, but now it has turned too hot to bathe in.

Människor bor och lever här, nära hettan. Guiden berättade att barnen i byn brukade bada här varje dag, men att det nu blivit alltför hett och farligt. Den vulkaniska verksamheten förändras hela tiden. Byn lever också i ständig fara att sjunka ner i den heta marken. I ett tidigare inlägg har jag berättat mer om vad man kan använda heta källor till.

In an earlier post I have written about how hot springs are used today. If they are not too hot they are used for various healthy baths, but otherwise, people cook food in the water or use the steem for it.

My fire

Vi blev tyvärr tvungna att kasta ut badkaret, så det här är vad jag kan åstadkomma hemma för att bli riktigt het. Under stormarna nödvändig när elen försvinner.

This is my way of getting hot at home…putting a log in the open fire and snug up close with a glass of hot tea or chocolate. During the storms we have in winter sometimes we have no electricity working for days – then this fire is essential to the house and its inhabitants.

When I think of reflections, I think about some special ones that I am really fond of… so these three pictures represents some of my warm memories on the subject. Hope you will enjoy my feelings for this week’s Photo challenge from WordPress.

I went out this beautiful summer evening to photograph the sunset, and Mille had to stay inside so he wouldn’t swim again before going to bed. But he knew I was out there, and was watching me from the window.

Under those dancing sunrays reflected in the cold icelandic sea, there is a giant whale, a humpback, soon coming up to the surface. That’s why all the birds are gathering – they know there will be a nice meal for them too.

My kitchen was filled with youngsters making saffron buns, and I just had to sneak outdoors and catch them through the window… and this was the result! There were even more of them!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Thankful

Denna veckas utmaning från WordPress utgår ifrån den stora helgen med Thanksgiving. Något liknande har vi inte i Sverige, men tacksamhet visar vi förhoppningsvis ändå, mot livet och för varandra. Lite oftare borde vi kanske visa det, men det behöver inte vara med stora festligheter. Jag tror att det räcker långt i vardagen – att du verkligen tänker på att visa och tala om att du är tacksam!

Det skulle bli väldigt mycket att skriva och många bilder att visa om jag skulle ta med ens en bråkdel av vad jag är tacksam för. Så, här kommer i all korthet mitt bidrag, som utgår från att jag fått komma hit och att jag har mina fem sinnen: syn, hörsel, smak, lukt och känsel. Ett tillägg gör jag, som för mig är viktigt för att kunna leva ett gott liv – humor!

The WordPress challenge this week is named Thankful. And, I immediately understood the impossibility of the task. I have so much to be thankful for. We all have. So, I decided to do it this way:

The five senses I’m thankful for having – my daughter’s cake is, I believe, much about taste and smell!

As I age, I hope to be allowed to keep my senses as long as possible. I’m thankful and grateful every day of my life for what I’ve been given.

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Macro

Makro – vad är det? Egentligen bara stor eller i naturlig storlek eller större. Makrofotografering innebär förmodligen dock att man har ett särskilt objektiv för det eller mellanringar. Själv har jag ingetdera. Mina närbilder tar jag oftast med en liten digitalkamera, en Canon IXUS. Den kostar inte hälften så mycket som ett objektiv, men tar – för mig – fullt acceptabla bilder. Man vet aldrig framöver om jag blir riktigt biten förstås.

Macro – if you look it up in a dictionary it only means big, life size, or bigger/larger than in real life. To show something in a close-up picture then… This is the challenge from the online magazine LetsBeWild.

I love looking at macro photos, but I don’t take many myself. If I do, it’s mostly the serets of flowers I’m trying to reveal. Maybe because they don’t fly away while I’m there? I love looking att secret animal life and all the magnificent entries! But still, here are my own very modest ones, mostly from the world of my garden begonias…

Special Photo Challenge: Inspiration

Mitt i veckan blir utmaningen att fundera på vad som inspirerar en del – mig till exempel – att blogga. Bild önskades på mig när jag befinner mig i sagda inspirerade tillstånd…

Inspiration? Naturen förstås, helst ensam då, eller på vandring med son eller dotter. Eller bara sitta och vara, utan att säga så mycket. Hundarna förstås, men på det har jag ingen talande bild där jag själv är med…Humor är ett av livets under – den håller mig levande och frisk. Resor förstås, till nya platser med spännande människor och händelser. Och så fotografering. Dessa fruktlösa försök att hålla fast ögonblicket, det fantastiska, som inte låter sig fångas som det verkligen syns och känns. Inte ens om jag försöker sätta ord till bild…

Det finns inte många bilder på mig själv eftersom jag brukar stå bakom kameran. Något fann jag, och jag sänder tack till man och barn för att jag fått leta i era arkiv.

WordPress asks: What inspires me to blog ? Well, Nature does – and then, I’d rather be alone… Travelling with my family near and far, experiencing new people, new places. Humour – joy and wonder. Walking alone or with my son or my daughter – just sitting, contemplating life and its quiet wonders. Alone, together, in silence. Photographing, in futile attempts to make some of those great moments last. Maybe the photos cannot make you see what I saw or feel what I felt, but still…If I really try, if I put in some words too, then maybe you will get a hint…a touch of that untouchable feeling I had…?

There are not many photos of me as I am usually the one behind the camera, but I have searched – and I have found. Some. Thank you husband and children!

WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Green

Grönt är min favoritfärg. Experterna anser att den verkar lugnande på oss människor – vi bör måla våra sovrum i grönt. De senaste forskningsrönen när det gäller sjukhusmiljöns betydelse för patienters tillfrisknande visar att naturbilder på väggarna befrämjar ett snabbare sådant. Och, vi bör äta mera grönt. Själv tycker jag också att den gröna färgen står för liv och skönhet.

Tack, WordPress för ännu ett intressant tema! Mitt problem den här gången var att inte ösa på med alla mina bilder på träd, blommor och gräs. Såhär blev resultatet!

Green – my favourite colour. So, what can I do but ramble around in my photo galleries trying not to throw in all my trees and grasses and flowerbeds and…

Green is a very basic colour that we truly need in our lives. If you ask the experts on decorating a house, repainting your bedroom and more – they will recommend green as a soothing and stabilizing colour. We also know from scientists that pictures of landscapes and nature will help our hospitalized patients to a speedier recover.

So, thank you WordPress for this health supporting mission! Go Green!

Weekly Travel Theme: Mystical

För mig är mystik och mystisk mest förknippat med djupa skuggor i djupa skogar. Ailsas Travel Theme får mig att genast plocka fram den subtropiska regnskogen på Nya Zeeland. Sen har jag också stor respekt för vatten. Djupa vatten inte minst. En resa till Barcelona fick mig att också se mystiken i flygande vatten…för, vad döljer sig därunder vattenkaskaden? Egentligen? Fantasin är en härlig gåva till oss människor!

Enlighten yourself at Ailsa’s Travel Theme: Mystical. Because…many of us find this Mystical in the deep shadows of the forest where strange and beautiful creatures hide, under the roots of the giant trees or under the rich moss and leaves. Even in strange and foreign waters things Mystical reigns…

Walking further into the subtropical rainforest, the remains of old giants seem to grin at you …

Sometimes they even – or almost – come alive…

…and it is so dark and shady that you feel the tangible presence of those old spirits surrounding you.

And you wonder – who, or what, is out there?

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Sunset

Den här veckans utmaning i onlinemagasinet Let’sBeWild handlar om solnedgång, Sunset. Först tyckte jag inte att jag hade något att delta med – alla har fotograferat solnedgångar så länge möjligheten att fotografera har funnits. Vad finns mer att säga? Men, förra julen blev en alldeles ny upplevelse för mig och min familj. Dottern skulle volontärarbeta på Nya Zeeland – mitt drömland från det jag var ca 12 år och hade en brevvän där. Så vi åkte hela familjen.

Jag har visat bilden förut, men solnedgången över vulkanen Mount Ruapehu kanske tål att tittas på en gång till? I alla fall för mig. Det var en mycket speciell julafton för oss.

This week’s Let’sBeWild photo challenge’s topic is Sunset. ”I don’t really have any photo to send”, was my first thought. But, I changed my mind. A memorable moment in my life – I’m sending a photo of my first Christmas Eve outside Sweden. Christmas has always been important to me, and it had to be spent at home with my entire family.

Last Christmas changed everything though. Our daughter was leaving for voluntary work in a nature protection project in New Zealand, and NZ has always been the country of my dreams ever since I was about twelve years old and had a penfriend there. She sent me the most wonderful photo calendars – and I was lost. This country seemed to have it all! From fiords and glaciers to hot springs and volcanoes.

”It’s now or never”, I thought. So, I made it a ”now”.

This photo was taken at Lake Taupo, Christmas Eve 2011. Mount Ruapehu is the volcano on the other side of the lake, and that’s where some of the scenes from The Lord of the Ring was shot. As we all are big LOTR fans, this made it even more special to us.
