Travel theme: Glass

Ailsas Travel theme den här gången har rubriken ”Glass” – glas. Min första association blir förstås spegelsalen i Versailles. För mig står den i en klass för sig när det gäller glas och kristall. Många människor tycker ungefär som jag, så att få ett bra foto därifrån känns ganska omöjligt.

Ailsa’s travel theme this week is called ”Glass”, and I’ll go for my first association – the Hall of Mirrors, Versailles. Nowhere in the world have I seen such splendour of glass, crystal and mirrors. Unfortunately (?) many people from all over the world like to come and admire at the same time, so photos are really impossible here…

Weekly Travel theme: New

Sista resetemat för året är New – Ny. Passande inför det nya året. Min tolkning handlar om studentdagen. En dag av sprudlande glädje, men också av vemod och sorgsenhet. Bilden är inte den bästa, men jag fångade kanske en glimt av vad som rör sig i huvudet denna viktiga dag.

Du har kämpat hårt och intensivt för att nå dina mål – och förhoppningsvis lyckats. Men när du springer ut genom dörren den där dagen, då är du ensam. Nu lämnar du all trygghet som kamrater och skola gett dig under alla år och står på helt egna ben. Allting står öppet för dig, hela världen är din! Du springer, sjunger och hoppar, men kanske det värker lite extra i hjärtat och du fäller en liten tår. Världen är ny!

Ailsa’s last travel theme for this year is New. Very relevant. But again, this can be interpreted in many ways.

My way, is through two of my lovely student’s who left school in June. It’s not a very good photo, but I think I caught a glimpse of the feelings that special day, from happiness and jumping joy to sadness and even sorrow. When you run out from school waving your cap, singing and shouting, you also have tears in your eyes. School’s out, you have been working hard to reach your goals – and hopefully you have. And, you are leaving your old friends behind. You have been tight working these three years or more – and now you have to find new friends.

When you walk out that door, it’s to never come back again. You are alone, but the world is there for you to explore – and for the first time in your life you are to decide on your own what way to go, what job or education you want. I remember the feeling myself even if it was 36 years ago. It’s a new life!

Weekly Travel Theme: Festive

Ailsas resetema (om jag kan säga så?) handlar den här gången om festligheter – Festive. Själv är jag ingen festmänniska alls, egentligen. Jag har beundrat och varit med på en del riktigt festliga fester – bland annat Wienerbalen med tillhörande Nyårskonsert. Men, men, man är inte designad för alla begivenheter i livet. Roligt att ha varit med, men kanske inte my cup of tea.

This is a theme also for the great small things in life – Ailsa’s Festive.

Weekly Travel Theme:Transportation and Wild Weekly Photo Challenge – Flying

I would like to participate in Ailsas Weekly Travel Theme: Transportation as well as in the online magazine LetsBeWild’s Weekly Photo Challenge – Flying! I’m short of time before Christmas with all my class tests, and the grades to be handed out, so…here we go!

The first picture shows a lonely balloon in the windless evening sky over Arrowtown, New Zeeland. I have never flown a balloon but would very much like to – especially over a landscape as beautiful as this.

Another way of flying and transporting is of course done by animals, and here it’s represented by a spring bee soon to land in one of my cherry trees. No flowers in the photo, but there were plenty of them on the tree and the little transporter is heavily loaded with pollen already.

Weekly Travel theme: Circles

Temat den här veckan handlar om cirklar. Eftersom jag redan använt min favoritbild av en cirkel, som är en koru – vilket innebär nytt liv på maoriernas språk, så fick jag tänka lite extra. Men, jag fann ganska snart en röd tråd i tanken på liv och nytt liv.

Resultatet blev detta: Först en målning av Salvador Dalís hustru Gala, där hennes ansikte ges liv av ett antal cirklar. Sedan det tibetanska Livets hjul, som visar buddhisternas syn på livet, och allra sist ett fält av maskrosbollar i solnedgången. Maskrosbollar vars små frön kommer att dansa iväg i den ljumma sommarvinden under sina runda, skira parasoller och ge upphov till miljontals nya maskrosliv.

I have already posted my favourite circle – the maori koru, so when Ailsas Travel theme for this week was circles, I started thinking about the meaning of koru – new life. It didn’t take long to find three other favourites also meaning new life.

So, here they are: First Gala, the wife of Salvador Dalí, who in this painting is put together and given life by the use of many circles. Then the Tibetan Wheel of Life that symbolizes the Buddhist perspective on life, and the third and last picture that shows a field of dandelions in the sunset. Dandelions that will spread new life with millions of tiny capsules, dancing and swirving under their circular umbrellas in the soft winds of summer.

Weekly Travel Theme – Hot

Temat för Ailsa den här veckan är het. Själv hade jag inte haft något emot en het sommardag vid havet just nu…Vi har ett antal minusgrader och sol, dock. Underbart efter allt grått och regn. Mina val för temat handlar inte om behagligheter, utan verklig hetta. Något att se upp för och njuta på behörigt avstånd…

Ailsa’s travel-themed photo challenge this week is Hot. I wouldn’t mind a day on the beach right now, but unfortunately… It’s freezing cold with sunshine though – and I’m thankful for that. We’ve had such grey and rainy weather for several weeks and this reflects my mood too. My work is consuming me at this time of the year and I’m neglecting my family and friends as well as myself. But soon, soon there will be a break around Christmas when the lights will warm me up and the laughter of my children and my friends will give me new life.

”Some like it hot”, and my choices for Hot are just that – HOT.

Island har gett namn åt sprutande hetvattenkällor – Geysir heter sådana över hela världen. Den ursprungliga Geysir har numera inga utbrott längre, men den ligger kvar där på Island, helt stilla. Kanske, kanske en dag att den vaknar igen…

The original Geysir, from which all geysirs have their name, is still there on Iceland, but resting. Maybe one day he will wake up again… Strokkur was the one most active when we were there.

Mudpool, NZ

Lerpölarna är ljuvliga. Jag funderar alltid på om de förekommer i någon Bondfilm…Det vore ett utmärkt sätt att avliva någon skurk på – kokande lera?

Mudpools are great. They are beautiful and fascinating, because they change all the time while you are watching them. I always think of James Bond…hasn’t some bad guy been thrown into a boiling mudpool? Maybe it’s only wishful thinking…

People actually live with this heat in their vicinity. These waters used to be a well visited spot for the children of the village, but now it has turned too hot to bathe in.

Människor bor och lever här, nära hettan. Guiden berättade att barnen i byn brukade bada här varje dag, men att det nu blivit alltför hett och farligt. Den vulkaniska verksamheten förändras hela tiden. Byn lever också i ständig fara att sjunka ner i den heta marken. I ett tidigare inlägg har jag berättat mer om vad man kan använda heta källor till.

In an earlier post I have written about how hot springs are used today. If they are not too hot they are used for various healthy baths, but otherwise, people cook food in the water or use the steem for it.

My fire

Vi blev tyvärr tvungna att kasta ut badkaret, så det här är vad jag kan åstadkomma hemma för att bli riktigt het. Under stormarna nödvändig när elen försvinner.

This is my way of getting hot at home…putting a log in the open fire and snug up close with a glass of hot tea or chocolate. During the storms we have in winter sometimes we have no electricity working for days – then this fire is essential to the house and its inhabitants.

Weekly Travel Theme: Mystical

För mig är mystik och mystisk mest förknippat med djupa skuggor i djupa skogar. Ailsas Travel Theme får mig att genast plocka fram den subtropiska regnskogen på Nya Zeeland. Sen har jag också stor respekt för vatten. Djupa vatten inte minst. En resa till Barcelona fick mig att också se mystiken i flygande vatten…för, vad döljer sig därunder vattenkaskaden? Egentligen? Fantasin är en härlig gåva till oss människor!

Enlighten yourself at Ailsa’s Travel Theme: Mystical. Because…many of us find this Mystical in the deep shadows of the forest where strange and beautiful creatures hide, under the roots of the giant trees or under the rich moss and leaves. Even in strange and foreign waters things Mystical reigns…

Walking further into the subtropical rainforest, the remains of old giants seem to grin at you …

Sometimes they even – or almost – come alive…

…and it is so dark and shady that you feel the tangible presence of those old spirits surrounding you.

And you wonder – who, or what, is out there?
