This hike we do every spring or summer – and it is always a treat. It takes about three, four hours, walking among old and strange trees planted here from all over the world … and it is close to the sea.
This place is home to numerous orchids (a meadow of them in the header) and Pasque flowers – just as beautiful when they are over!
The last flower blooming could also be the last hideaway for a little bug…
This hike is a perfect outing for schoolchildren – but, today we had to step away from the path for several hundreds of kids. Smiling and cheery ones though.
Blindworm or slowworm – I see them quite often. In fact this is a lizard, but legless. This guy was a beauty, about 30 cm long, slim and well fed.
Driving home on old roads to enjoy the flat and open views of the southern part of Skane. A good day we had. And the light lasts far into the night.
Many of us love reflections and shadows, and many of us photograph them frequently. I am one of them. This week Patti has challenged us to show some of our images in monochrome. Shadows and reflections are even more mysterious and enigmatic then, as you will find them changing our perception of the image. Some images more than others, but, they all draw us in for new lines and details, new perspectives.
I have always preferred the reflection of the life to life itself.

Glass reflects light in different and special ways. This glass piece from Kosta Boda was displayed on fur – very attractive and innovative opposites.
A visit to Library of Water in Stykkishólmur, Iceland, will give you another perspective of water. The reflections of the outside world as well as of the inside of the columns show how water refracts light differently.

A feast for the eye.
I found these fun shadows at a vineyard east of Porto, Portugal. These two containers were so big, that you had to have a ladder and a bridge to use them.

A spring hike is never wrong. Here I am sending some highlights from one of the most beautiful protected areas in Skåne, where I live. It is known for its biodiversity and its many pasqueflowers. My Silent Sunday was photographed there too.
The area is 300 hectares large, and consists of forest, meadows, marshland, beaches and sea.In May it is of course a dream to walk here, but Autumn too is very beautiful. We usually visit twice a year. Milo loves it.The paths are mostly easily walked, but maybe not for everyone.The marshland is fascinating and can not be reached all days of the year. Spring is often OK, if the rains are moderate.Orchids are frequent, as are all spring flowers – gently nodding to you from both sides of the path.Some of them are secret charmers…
About three hours later, we are back at the gate. This part of the hike goes through an area with foreign trees brought here from all over the world.

That day, in the beginning of May, hiking at Kivik and Stenshuvud – Looking at the pictures, I just have to bring you there again!
Stenshuvud is a hill ( 97 m (318 ft) high and faces the Baltic Sea) in the southeastern corner of Sweden, close to the little village of Kivik. Since 1986, it is one of the National parks of Sweden, covering an area of about 3.9 km2 (1.5 sq mi).
Most of the area is covered with broadleaf forest, especially European hornbeam.
The sun was lavishing its hot yellow waves this day (27 C is hot in Sweden…), and Totti and I decided to hike close to the sea – hoping for a breeze.
Unfortunately there was nothing of the kind…
The park also contains heaths, meadows and swamps, and because of the mild climate and varied habitats, many different animal and plant species can be encountered here. If you are lucky, you can meet rare animals as the hazel doormouse, the Eurasian golden oriole or the European tree frog. But, except for the usual birds and some other dogs, we only met this little green friend.
Since the surrounding landscape is relatively flat, the hill can be seen from a great distance and has traditionally been used as a landmark for seafarers.
According to local folklore, the hill got its name (”Sten’s head”) from a giant living here in a cave.
Back in the forest again, several orchids dotted the wood anemone fields.
And some blue eyes on fragile stems.
The forest and trees are indeed enchanted…
…but so are the orchards. Kivik is famous for its apples and all of their refined juices.
Hope you enjoyed the hike as much as Totti and I did – after all, a refreshing bath is not bad before returning to the starting point.
