This week Cee is asking us for something metal or from the season of autumn – my choice is The Kelpies in Falkirk, Scotland. Impressive metal sculptures that took my breath away this July.
The Kelpies, made by sculptor Andy Scott, stand 30 metres tall in the 350 hectares Helix recreational space in Falkirk. They are the world’s largest equine sculptures and towering over the Forth & Clyde Canal they form a gateway to the canal entrance. These sculptures are meant to pay tribute to central Scotland’s working horse heritage on the canals from years gone by. Read more about them in my post here.

And, thank you Cee for featuring my entry on Harvest last week!

Thank you!
Wow! We have ridden the Falkirk Wheel but because we were a bit late we didn’t have time to explore the area and didn’t see these beauties. We just might have to go back.
Oh, you must! Be sure to visit in the late evening too when they are illuminated. We had to leave for our plane and missed that – but next time!
Absolutely brilliant sculptures, Ann Christine. The eyes look quite lifelike. 🙂
They’re quite lifelike, yes. i wonder how they make those giants so well proportioned.
It’s such an art, isn’t it?
Mmm, they are skilled and worth all admiration.
I really love those sculptures! I haven’t imagined them so huge till I saw the people on your picture. Thanks for sharing!
They are really huge and you feel very little beside them.
This is beautiful must be awe inspiring to stand near them
It is indeed. First seeing them from a distance and then walking up to them – awesome.
Amazing! Great photos!
Thank you! I’d love to go back and see them at night – illuminated!
What grand scultures they are, literally and figuratively speaking. 🙂
I totally agree.
Wow! Fantastic artwork.
Thank you – I think so too. i’d like to see them illuminated in the night. Maybe next time!
Impressive photos. And glad to read that they are made out of stainless steel. If not, I don’t think the statues would last very long. The meteal horses look very life-like, and the one looking down looks a bit angry 🙂
Agree. And the horse holding his ears backwards might look angry…
Look at those eyes. The faces are so expressive. I want to hug those horses.
A bit difficult though…there is water in front.
Bother!
😉
I’ve seen these marvellous things before, Ann Christine, and loved them from my first sighting. Imho, animals are what all statues should be of. Sighh …
Sigh…yes…
WOW!! Such an interesting metal sculpture/statue. Wonderful photos of it.
Intriguing.
Dessa hästar tar andan ur mig också ! // Maria 🙂
😀
I love them and your photos, too!
Thank You for a lovely comment!
amazing!!
Aren’t they! I stayed for hours…
