I have seen one with a little one in the Spanish Pyrenees. We heard them calling, and the marmot totally petrified standing outside its den. We could take som ephotos rather easily – not understanding why it was standing there…until we saw the little one several metres away from mum. She was of course trying to get the attention so that we souldn’t see the little one.
Yes, it was difficult to leave them. There were many birds of prey in the air and the distance between mother and child was maybe 10-15 metres. (Trying desperately now to find the entry I once posted about it and the shot of the two marmots but cannot find it. Bad tagging I guess… 2011 I would guess…)
Shame, I would have liked to have seen it….
😦

cute, but frightened maybe 🙂
Yes, frightened. My reblog from a hike in the Pyrenees shows just how frightened they can be. Family.

They are so cute! I also saw them in the Spanish Pyrenees, and in Switzerland!
Very cute – but shy.
I’ve only ever seen Marmots in a zoo…..
