Tonight I learned that the special light today – the sun never came through and it had a strange orange shine – originated from the effects of the fires in Spain/Portugal, like sand from Northern Africa.
I had brought my camera, heading for the forest, for some last shots of the autumn leaves – but the morning resulted in these shots of the unusual phenomenon. Not very clear or bright, but you can even see orange glittering water!

We had this in the UK two days ago and people with breathing difficulties were advised to stay indoors and keep the windows closed until it had passed. I was very eerie here too!
Oh, that sounds worse than here – no warnings!
That would be very eerie.
That top image says it all…it was so weird…red sun in the night of the day…I didn’t get any images
So you had it too! Eerie.
It was most unsettling, end of world sort of stuff
True – and not unlikely…
Felt better when we got the answer.
Indeed!
Så fin bild på den konstiga färgen på himmel och sol igår. Tog också en bild och fick förklaringen på nyheterna.
Lite konstig stämning blev det allt innan man visste vad det berodde på.
Ja det tyckte jag också.
Looks a lot like here in California but it’s much redder here, smoke AND smog…. just lovely. 😛
How are you doing? On TV it looks frightening
Hello my dear Ann-Christine, Yes, it’s very frightening and has been difficult as I have PTSD. However I also am a good meditator thus manage OK. Just very tired as the smog/smoke is really debilitating to the lungs. We expect some rain on Thursday so do your raindance! I shall join you. 🙂 xox
Glad to help out!
We experienced this yesterday, Leya. The remnants of Hurricane Ophelia also helped with the phenomenon, bathing everywhere in a surreal orange-yellow glow. It was both eerie and calm at the same time.
Interesting but as you say, eerie. As we did not know until they said it on TV, we found it very strange. It should have been clear and sunny.
Very cool effect.

Strange too. It was supposed to be sunny and clear skies .
