I cannot stop thinking of the school shooting in Florida. I just – know, this Must be stopped. There must be and end to this. What are we doing to our young?
I don’t have any solutions – but someone Must have. Someone is payed to have. We all know that there is something very, very wrong with a society that creates these disasters. Many of our young suffer from mental problems. In Sweden you will find them in every school, in every class. Every week we can read about this in new scientific articles, hear about it on the radio and see it on TV. As a teacher – I know. And mental illness combined with guns or other weapons…cannot but lead to disasters.
In Sweden we have to have a license to buy and own a weapon. Our weapons are meant for hunting animals in the forest – moose, deer, pigs, birds and others. The weapon must be kept dismantled and in a safe. This law saves us from the worst disasters.
People can get shot over here as well – but so far we have avoided mass shootings.
My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

Hard to be positive in thought when such stupidities continue on such a regular basis. Today the ‘killer’ for that is what he is, now proclaims himself as a professional school shooter.. How do so many aspire in the USA to commit such acts. One stupid woman this morning was proffering the theory that seems to be gaining momentum that more guns are needed, pupils and teachers should be armed. That surely is going back to the days of the Wild West when law and order didn’t exist. Surely the answer is gun control. the carrying of weapons in public places by right needs to be stopped. One cannot imagine the trauma the youngsters and parents have had to endure in events that now seem to happen on a near daily basis in the USA
Well said. Diffult to change old habits and laws it seems. No matter the cost…
I wonder how many Americans would like to see the gun laws altered. I think it is, maybe, just a very vocal minority that want it to stay the same. Surely they must do something. I heard there has been 18 school shootings this year, EIGHTEEN, and I think they are becoming so common place now they don’t even report them until a shooting like Florida comes along. Thank God and a previous Prime Minister (John Howard) who changed our gun laws back in 1996 after a massive massacre with 36 people gunned down.
So you have changed your gun laws not that long ago! Well done. I had no idea. Maybe America could look to you for some good advice – and learn from your example. But there are many old men over there – and young men as well…who cannot imagine giving up the old ”western” ways. I believe their only hope is the democrats winning.
It was a major moment and since then there has been no massacres, that is qualified as over 5 people shot, since 1996. Now they use cars. 😩
Trucks here.
☹️
I agree Ann-Christine. It is so sad that this continues to happen despite so many warning signs from this troubled youngster himself. I can totally understand why more parents choose home schooling when no one can guarantee the safety of their children when they go to school in the US. Our thoughts are with the families and children caught up in this tragedy 💜

Well said.

I do agree with your sentiments, A C
Thank you, Sue. I really have tried not to think about it, but the total absurdity of these shootings is in my thoughts the greater part of the day.
And why, why, why don’t they reduce gun ownership???
Exactly. I know it is an old thing from when the white man settled over there. They strongly believe in their ”right” to bear arms. But they must do something radical to stop the shootings…
A ‘right’ to bear arms needs to be addressed for the 21st Century….
True. But it is the male part of the society that will decide…
As ever….
