I knew this would be the last day of the Indian summer this year. So, I decided to drive through the colourful October landscape over to a neighbouring hiking area.
I did not take the fastest road, but followed the old country roads through the rural landscape in its late evening glory.
Piled trunks, waiting to be chipped, creates another kind of rural harmony in the landscape. Just like the animals, they are essential for the farmers to make a living.
Then the hard road surface softly turns into gravel…
…and just around the corner, new views are awaiting.
Cattle silently munching, not knowing that soon they will have to return to the stable – or…maybe not…
Number 1!
The evening is warm and hazy, colourful and still. I stand in the middle of the road, just to hear the silence and feel the sunshine. There is a certain sadness…coming over me.
Soon we will be there. Ready for the evening walk. Milo and me.

Beautiful captures. It’s nearly fall here and it’s getting cold quite soon. 🙂
Thank you – and yes, best prepare for the blast…
Your words and images brought me serenity, Leya.
As this day did me. I am glad.
Looks good….but here in the UK despite storms last weekend we haven’t given up hope for more sunshine and maybe above average temperatures. For us in our small part of the UK autumn has yet to arrive with all its colour. Maybe it will not come this year and we move straight into winter…after all it has been such an odd seasonal/weather year. On the whole rather nice….but? 🙂
Odd here as well, as you know. But finally colours even if there has not been any frost. No storms, but the leaves are slowly falling anyway. Odd. I think it might be because of the severe draught we had – some connection there. Hope you too will get some warmth and sunny days before the long winter.
Today the wind and rain will start here.
There was an Autumn Watch programme on BBC TV last night. They tried to explain why leaves change colour and in particular why red and gold are dominant. They had one expert who had been studying the phenomena for years who gave a very good explanation which sounded very plausible. Then another came on equally as well qualified who gave an explanation that was exactly opposite to the first…….. so who knows? Well that’s experts for you 🙂
Then I will stick to my own ideas!
Lovely adventure! What a way to bit farewell to summer! Gorgeous photos
Thank you, Laura. It is with a bit of sadness…winter is very long up here. Not until April, May will there be warmer winds again.
Already, the temperatures are in the 60’s. How pleasant for hiking and just being outside. Our summer had become punishing with its heat. Funny how with each season, I long for the next. 😊
