The butterflies are leaving – rain and less than 15 degrees C. I only see a few every day now, and they are all battered, tired and slow. Sitting in the last rays of warming sun, preferably on a wall facing south. My Buddleijas are blooming a second time, but almost only bumblebees and bees are guests. It is always sad to see the butterflies go, but there will be a new Spring for them I hope.

They did. No hail or heavy storms, so most of them were not as battered as they usually are in September.

Here, we seem to have been having a bit of a butterfly bonanza, after a rather thinly-populated summer. Perhaps some will find their way to you.
How great for you! But no…for us it is too late now. Just the other year I realised that some butterflies wake up again in spring. I thought more or less all of them died during winter.

The only ones I have seen recently are the Large Whites. Always sad to see the butterflies leave the garden.
