Woman

There are so many women in the world…and they are all important. My choices are still easy to make – the two most important women in my own life: My daughter and my mother. My daughter, some years ago, a summer in our cottage by the sea, and my mother hiking one of the Madeiran trails at the age of 75.

Woman – industrious, hard working, smart, loving, kind, helping, generous, caring…

Thursday Thoughts

In less than 8 weeks from now…the wonder will happen again…

Pictures from last year and Spring unfolding…

P1030963_copyHow much do I long for this? I cannot tell you. But, the blackbird sings in the evening now, the cranes, the lark and the lapwings have arrived. We are ready.

WPC: Wish

Wish, a challenge from Jen. I have just watched the TV news – I often wish I never had. 20 years ago we stopped buying and reading evening papers, and I still avoid much of the catastrophy-, war- and news media. Not my body nor my soul was made for it. I believe nobody’s body or soul is. Still, once a day I listen to the radio news, that way I avoid the pictures.

Tonight, this  thin, starving man, came running towards me with his little daughter in his arms. Running through the ruined city of Mosul, tears streaming down his cheeks, his daughter in his arms, lifeless. His open face in the camera. Next, a woman in the camera…crying. Next, her four children in hospital beds, badly wounded from bomb shells and poison gas.

I try to surround myself with beauty. I cannot exist without it. I wish some of this beauty also might bring something good to other people than me…to my family, to my friends…pieces of harmony in a disastrous world. Good things start with yourself…You have to be the change you want to see in the world. Gandhi talked about that. And, I believe that is the way. If we all try, in our own little ways…the waves will grow and reach distant shores. Let Love and Harmony win.

Travel theme: Paths

Nice company on your path is often welcome…

…family and friends…

But also – alone, reflective…

Stony, hard, tough…

Soft, warm and glorious

I love paths, and I love the memories when I once again look at them, remember them…a little bit of sadness, a little bit of…life gone forever.

These paths belong to the Azores, Spain, Madeira, New Zealand and Sweden.

Thursday Thoughts – Longing…

Sometimes I find myself longing for those velvet and satin nights. Nights with only the sound of…distant birds. Nights when you walk slowly, holding the air in the palm of your hand… and feel tuned in to… the whole creation. Sometimes, these cold, windy and rainy Nordic nights…

WPC: The Road Taken

For this week’s challenge, Krista asks us to show something that surprised us on “the road taken.” Many roads taken…but this road over the moors up to Heathcliff’s and Cathy’s Wuthering Heights really surprised me. We walked for hours, and the landscape was just as beautiful and haunting as in the novel…one of the world’s greatest love stories. I almost felt them whispering in the wind, laughing and running, hand in hand.

Imagine a lady dog barking at my best friend…and he doesn’t say a word against her. Does not answer. Just keeps playing along in the wild game…Maybe Totti is a bit like the giant flower terrier in Bilbao – a cool beauty.
