Ailsa’s theme this week is about Wind. As the wind has been fairly strong during the last weeks here, my contribution is from a walk with Totti on a small island near our summer house. Trees and grass and us on the move…
Totti, at least, is a fan of these strong winds. He turns his nose to the wind and – enjoys!
Grasses are indeed something needing more attention – they are outstandingly beautiful. Imagine your world without them – how empty it would be, lifeless and dull. When you see the wind blowing through thick grass, the sea has gone ashore…
Here are some of my favourite grasses – the first one , name unknown to me, but glorious in the late summer evenings at our summer house. And then wavy hair-grass and lastly Briza media or Quaking grass.
Thank you, Ailsa, for another inspiring theme!
Along the path where my Mille used to gallop every day, hundreds of times, down to his beloved place by the sea – grows wavy hair-grass. How well didn’t this name of grass fit them both! In Swedish as well, because it is called kruståtel, where ”krusig” means ”curly”.
My absolute favourite of all grasses is the Quaking grass – and as always when you are greatly loved, you have many names. (At least that is a saying in Sweden!)
Common names in English includes Quaking-grass, Cow-quake, Didder, Dithering-grass, Dodder-grass, Doddering Dillies, Doddle-grass, Earthquakes, Jiggle-joggles, Jockey-grass, Lady’s-hair, Maidenhair-grass, Pearl Grass, Quakers, Quakers-and-shakers, Shaking-grass, Tottergrass, Wag-wantons.
In Sweden we have bävergräs, dallergräs, darrgräs, frostagräl, skälvgräs, hjärtgräs.
Old-fashioned…what is that? For me it might have something to do with traditions as well – so, have a look at all the different interpretations of Old-fashioned !
This old-fashioned cap or hat is still used by all graduating students in Sweden. Its history is about 175 years old. And, we all still sing the special Students’ Song at the special dinner before being set free…and throw them in the air before running out into a completely new life…
The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, or Queen Sofía Museum, is Spain’s national museum of 20th-century art. Formerly an 18th century hospital, but was renovated into a modern museum situated near the Atocha station in Madrid. It was officially inaugurated on September 10, 1992,
The museum is mainly dedicated to Spanish art. Highlights of the museum include excellent collections of Spain’s two greatest 20th century masters, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. Even if Dali´ is my personal favourite, the most famous masterpiece in the museum is Picasso’s painting Guernica.

For Ailsa this week’s theme is Subtle. Öland by the sea, deer and dancing lapwings in late evening light.
Youngsters – don’t we all love them!
Travel theme for Ailsa at Where’s My Backpack? Smooth. My response is about some of the smoothest things I know:
Well worn wood, the soft covering on garlic and birds swimming smoothly in soft water. This one also captured the fish very smoothly – and let it slide down easily as well…
