Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge: Fences and Gates

For Cee this week – three fences in one picture: A very broad stone fence, one barbed wire and one electrified fence. The gates below belongs to the most fantastic pink building in Ronneby, Blekinge.

For Cee this week – Shiny sea and ice from Iceland, and shiny paw steps from Totti.

Lens-Artists Challenge #36: – Around the Neighborhood

Tinas challenge this week is to take us Around the Neighborhood. Your own, someone else’s or maybe from where you stayed on one of your travels. I have chosen our summer paradise in Blekinge, Sweden.

We have a tiny cottage there, where we spend some lovely summer weeks every year.

Our summer house is small, but the area is known for its big and beautiful old buildings.

The park, Ronneby Brunn, is a famous, prize winning beauty, but in the neighborhood you will also find old mansions – some abandoned- but their gardens are kept alive.

So, what more will you find here? Harmony…

and the sea. Quiet mornings you can take the canoe and paddle along the little stream reaching from the sea to a lake nearby.

Or, you can walk or bike along the country roads and listen to the birds singing and the cattle munching away. You will soon get used to the strange looks you get…

Blekinge is also renowned for its many old oak trees. This giant stands at Gökalv, where we spend much time hiking and watching the sunset. Estimated age – several hundred years old.

When dinner is finished, we walk or bike along the shore to see the horses and the swans showing off their young.

And when sunset is approaching, we return to Gökalv for the glorious ending of the day.

Maybe a final swim before going to bed – if it is a warm night…

The longest day of the year, darkness will never fall, so, we walk along the water line and listen to the swallows chasing mosquitos. Being grateful to just exist.

Thank you, Tina, for an inspiring challenge and the opportunity to visit so many neighborhoods around the world!

Thursday Thoughts – An Ordinary, Early Autumn Day

An early dog walk…in Autumn fogs, cool and soft.

There are occasional glimpses of sun – I brought my little point and shoot camera only…

It is difficult to walk two dogs and try to shoot with a heavy camera.

Resting after breakfast – Totti and Milo both love our summer house.

Mornings are the best time to enjoy the stillness – no summer guests anymore. Paths are empty, and the fields belong to geese and horses only. Milo found that dwarfed opening gate in the hedge…I always wonder who once lived there – given that Milo is about 30 cm high now…

Forest walk in the evening – some birds chirping low and softly muted. There is no wind so the flies are on the hunt.

This area, Lindö,  is a nature reserve, so you have to be kind to those flies and mosquitoes as well…

Have you ever had a puppy? Sometimes my toes wish they hadn’t…

I know Milo is a good guy, and that Totti is slowly adjusting. But I can read Totti’s thoughts by the look of his eyes – just when is that ”thing” going home again...

WPC: Lines

Cheri asks us to pay attention to Lines – and my choices are natural ones as well as man made. Unfortunately the magic of the old tree is only left in photos and memories now. Last summer it finally gave in to old age.

WPC: Favorite Place

Cheri asks us to pick a favorite place where our thoughts can run free. A place to return to, at home or in a foreign country. I guess many of us have more than one spot…

In the header my mother and the dogs are sitting at my favorite spot – the beautiful old beech in the forest meadow. I walk there almost every day, and in summer I usually sit down to contemplate the loveliness of the soft wind through the grasses and the canopy.

But there is one more place of quiet contemplation, and that is the waterline close to our summerhouse. Horses and birds and foxes – and me…we all love it. It is the first and the last glimpse of water during our Blekinge summer.

CFFC: Letter Z

Letter Z – In the header haze, Mount Ruapehu, New Zealand.

Then, my little boy, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzleeping on the – table…

WPC: Serene

Ben asks us for a photo of Serene

Serene, calm and quiet. So valuable and so rare. So precious in this busy world.

My most precious – the sea and the sky at our summer house. Early morning, no wind, silence, blue sky, welcoming the new day.

Then – the Icelandic landscape, sunset on the south coast in winter. Earthy, low sky, settling the day.
