For Friendly Friday I would like to present the country of Herons – The Netherlands. It seems every garden has its own heron… But Holland is a country claimed from the sea, and sea birds are everywhere in the canals and on the fields.
Herons have got, in every position, style and poise – a certain dignity.
And, they easily let themselves be photographed – as they stand completely still when focusing on their prey. Or study you and your camera.

Magnificent birds, definitely professional posers 😛
😁
hey
keep blogging. you are doing a great job.

Thank you kindly!
Fantastic image, that top one. … I never had the opportunity to meet the heron *smile … but I met a duck with her small ones. Have a lovely weekend, tomorrow I take off for Belfast, friends, Scotland and Giant Causeway.
Have a great trip, Viveka! Giant’s Causeway is waiting for you!
Yes, lived in Belfast for 10 years and never visit. The weather isn’t going to be the greatest, rain .. but it’s what it’s. Thanks, A-C!
I love the herons – such good models!
They are – a bit pre-historic look?
Yes!
I love herons, and Holland! 🙂
Nice combo!
Indeed!
They always have that prehistoric look about them…standing stock still 🙂
Lovely shots. And they knew how to pose..
They did – they live close to people.
We have them around us, but they don’t stand around let anyone get this close, that’s for sure. These are obviously much more used to people. 🙂 I do love the fishing birds.
janet
Janet, there are more than 17 million people living on an area smaller than Denmark – so The Netherlands is one of the most densely populated countries in the world (400/m2). Animals and people live very much side by side. They have to be friends!
Style and poise, oh yes, definitely! 🤣
They are majestic.
WE have the Great Blue Heron near us. Such elegant birds.
Ah, I know! Lucky you!
I see them infrequently, usually as they take flight, startling me. Such immense wingspan, and a powerful take off.
Powerful it is! And I agree they can be startling when not seen before take off.
Like tigers springing from the brush, so elegant and dangerous. Luckily not to us. 🙂
Love Herons. Great photos A-C 😀
Thank you – but you are the expert on birds!
I guess I have an interest in birds but far from an expert.
But you are so good at photographing them! I have little experience in that.
I take a lot to get a couple of good ones
😊
