Those are indeed giant ant hills! Some years ago when our older daughter and I were in Costa Rica, our guide in the rain forest showed us a gigantic termites mound and asked if we knew what they made them with. I did and he was quite surprised while everyone else was taken aback. 🙂
I was thinking that in a way they remind of the giant fungus growing termite mounds in Africa. One place I visit has ant hills ”like” these but much smaller.
Interesting – one more comment about termite mounds. Industrious creatures.

I see those things are anthills. How big are the ants???
Well, they are the ordinary ants, bown/red , about 9-10 mm.

I like the colour of the rocks in this beautiful forest. Is that an ant heap?
Is that one big ant hill????
Yes! And two more in the area – one visible behind the white lady!
They are certainly big:)
I wonder how many ants in each…
A lot! Millions I would think.
Yes.
It is – three big ones in this area.
Wow!
An ant hill?a shelter? Makes the viewer wonder.
Ant hill – three really big ones in this area!
Wow is all I can say!

That’s quite some pile. Someone’s home or a fastidious forest dweller?
