I have not been online much this week. The worst scenario happened Monday evening – a pitbull came running towards us, caught Milo and would not let go. The owner of the dog soon turned up, apologizing that he had let the dog slip from him. He tried to break up the jaws of his dog, but those jaws are made for Not letting go.
After a seemingly endless fight, the pitbull finally let go – only to run around us and attack Milo’s hind leg and groin. I don’t know how the owner made the dog stop, but he did. Blood everywhere.
Milo limped with me to the car and we drove to the vet at the town hospital. We stayed until morning broke, and they had operated him. I don’t know how many stiches, but at least in 4-5 places on his body. Shaved clean and a drainage set.
I am still in a state of shock, but Milo is alive – that is the most important thing. I am home alone since two weeks, (my husband in Taiwan) but I do wish I wasn’t…
So, I am writing this now, when Milo is safely asleep beside me. Grateful for his life. Grateful for a responsible owner, who immediately paid all expenses the day after, and – promised to let the pitbull be euthanized. He was badly hurt in arms and fingers himself, and had spent some hours at the hospital too that night.
Why do people buy dogs that are deadly weapons? I know several people, and even friends, who have lost their dogs or got bitten themselves (or their child) after such a meeting. People always say that it is the dog owner’s fault, who cannot handle those breeds correctly. But – there will always be people who ”cannot handle it”. The injuries will not be that disastrous though, if you have an ordinary breed and not one that is trained to kill.
I think Denmark has forbidden those killer breeds, but here – no. How many lives must be spilled before there is a law against breeding and having them?

I’m currently travelling and therefore not reading blogs daily just now. Somehow I spotted yours, and felt I should read it when I saw the heading. I’m so very sorry, Anne-Christine. A friend of ours had a similar, though not so serious experience a year ago, and found that her sweet dog took longer to feel safe again than it took for the physical wounds to heal. But with your loving care, Milo has the bext possible place for recovery and convalescence. I do hope your husband will be home very soon to share the care. Oh, how dreadful for you and Milo! Of course I am glad that he wasn’t even more badly hurt, and also that the pit bull owner has taken a responsible attitude to the incident, but it is still an awful thing to have happened. I wish Milo the speediest of recoveries ❤️

What a horrific experience for you and Milo. I am glad he is recovering and that the owner took responsibility. That doesn’t always happen. Just yesterday, a neighbor cautioned me that she had seen a new resident in our community walking two pitbulls. I had no idea they were allowed.
So they are allowed over there too? We are working on stopping them. Watch out – good if you know exactly where they live.

My heart goes out to you and Milo. My mother’s precious dog was similarly attacked by a pitt bull and had multiple lacerations. It took a long time but Bella did recover. No one should have to go through that, least of all Milo. I’m all for the ban, AC. They’re too risky. Stay plucky.

That is just awful, I am sorry. Glad he is on the mend. ❤️🩹 I totally understand how you feel. our grandson was attacked by a dog while playing football when he was 2 years old, he survived but got 20 stitches at least. Luckily he was not bitten in the face. The scare was awful. Yes, the dog attacked was put down as the law requires.
That is a great fear. Happy to hear he survived and was not bitten in the face. So these dogs are allowed in Finland as well? We are working on getting them banned.Don’t know how to succeed…
What a terrible experience to endure. Thank goodness dear Milo survived such a traumatic mauling. I agree those dogs should not be allowed to be living in a city, or anywhere. Sad to be on your own at this time too. But we all in the blogging community will be thinking of you and wishing you and Milo a speedy recovery

He is calm and stable, but we don’t know yet if he will stay calm with other dogs. I am afraid he might be frightened or aggressive. Hopefully he will be himself again.

I know how you feel, Anne-Christine. My dog was attacked by two labs who got loose from our neighbor’s yard. Brodie was bitten on his back and needed stitches. Nothing like poor, sweet Milo’s. It is terrifying to go through. Your neighbor is an upstanding person. My prayers for the emotional healing for you and the physical healing of Milo. You just being near him is 90% of it. Take care!

In fact, because Milo stayed calm and the man too, He started breaking up the jaws and everything went in slowmotion for me. Shocked. Grateful.

Yes, thank you. It took some days to really take it in…Milo is on the mend, but we don’t know about mental injuries yet. Crazy. And he is so stable and strong – let’s hope he still is and will be.

Well i am so pleased your both OK what an aweful experience for sure.i has Staffordshire bull terrier for years and she would willingly of ran around with milo she never showed aggression unless it was for defence a real freind and I find it hard to grasp how badly some are at raising dogs even kids no wonder these things happen hun .
