Anne leads us this week, with an interesting challenge: Texture. She says texture gives us the visual quality of a surface — how rough, smooth, gritty, or soft it appears in a two-dimensional image. Please go to her beautiful site for brilliant guidance!
I decided to use photos from our trip to Africa this February – a continent of many textures, both in animals, plants and landscape.

In this gallery I hope to have gathered a variey of African textures, mainly in animals. I hope you can ”feel” them! (Even if you may not really want to…)

Show us your images where texture plays an integral part. I think you will find they are more frequent than you thought! When you share your post, please remember to link it to Anne’s original post and use the Lens-Artists tag.
Last week I had great fun seeing your pairings with pictures and quotes! Many I had never seen before and many recognized but with new surprising combos. Thanks you to all who participated! Next week Ritva will be presenting the challenge. A visit to her site is always rewarding – In the meantime, stay safe and be kind!
A wonderful gallery, Ann-Christine! Those animal textures run the gamut, don’t they? Coincidentally, just yesterday I finished a post from my Africa trip in 2024. In January 2025, I’d processed the photos of Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town, posted them in a Flickr gallery, got distracted and promptly forgot to write the post. I wonder how many other photos I have in Flickr where I didn’t finish the post… hmm.
Haha, well…you are a man of many hobbies!
What an unforgettable experience this was! Your photos brought those textures to life. Wonderful post!
Thank you, Egidio – I had great fun with this challenge!
Wonderful response Ann=Christine. The animals are my favorite. They invite being touched, but… The turtle probably!
Ha ha yes, maybe…but he scampered away rather fast…despite being a turtle. Thank you for a wonderful challenge!
You almost fooled me with the metal rhino. Lovely textured memories, Ann-Christine xx
Thanks, Jo! I didn’t touch any of them – but I was close enough…
I’m so glad you used your African adventure to inspire this post. So many familiar(ish) textures in surprising guises!
Thank you, Margaret – I feel there is much to post from there. I hope you will not get tired of it!
Never!
♥
I’m continuing to enjoy all your posts about your Africa trip (with more than a touch of jealousy as I’d love to go there again!) and this one is no exception. You’ve found such a variety of textures to share! If I were to pick favourites I would have to include the warthog shot, the (real) rhino and those gorgeous green leaves at the end 😀
I am glad you are not tired of it yet! Are you planning on a new tour to Africa?
Not at the moment but I’d love to go back one day! I’d like to visit South Africa but haven’t yet convinced my husband 😀
Well…I am sure you will convince him!
Fun twist on the challenge , especially the boar, rhino, and crocodile. Those are textures I don’t want to touch!
Haha, well Brad, I was close enugh to be able to touch the boar and the rhino – but I did not try…
Wise woman. 😊
😀
Very clever Ann-Christine! Of course wonderful as always. What’s not to love about those amazing creatures?!
Thank you, Tina – it was a fun idea and I enjoyed it! Glad you liked it too.
Ann-Christine, I never tire of seeing your amazing images from Africa. I can ”feel” the texture of each one. The only ones I would actually want to touch are the ones that aren’t live animals!
Haha, well, I understand!
Am looking up-and-down and trying to touch everything to compare . . . love the ‘mathematical’ ruggedness in the first photo . . .
Eha, ruggedness is almost always captivating!
These are priceless, the animals and the green leaves stole my heart. Lovely as always Ann-Christine
Thank you, Ritva! It was a fun idea.
