BBC News – Ecuador approves Yasuni park oil drilling in Amazon rainforest.
This is a truly sad story where the western world once again fails the Earth and its people. We can not afford loosing more rainforests! Oil is not going to last anyway, we simply have to find new ways of living and new ways of getting enough energy.
We have already got other options…why don’t we use them? Because there is lobbyism from the oilbusiness people…and we seem never to get rid of people profiting on each other. A deplorable, major defect in humans.

This is truly sad, the greedy few squeeze profit without care from the beating heart of earth….and the rest of us stand back and watch. Somehow we are unable to break the spell of oil dependency.

Thank you for this link…I was following the Chevron case for some time, but haven’t seen anything the last months. This is a very informative video… that makes my heart sink. I knew Ecuador won this case, but I understand that Chevron will not pay. Instead they launched campaigns against the country they polluted. I lose faith in mankind so many times…there is so little time and so much that has to be done.
I don’t know how young people find the strength to fight these disasters, because they are everywhere and neverending. In my little world I try to live by ”be the change you want to see in the world”.

I am ashamed to say that I didn’t know much about this until Silvana posted the video link. However, in NZ there is currently debate about the Government’s intention to allow offshore oil exploration rights and there is opposition; and rightly so.
I admire you over there in NZ, because you are so much more aware of what’s happening in your country and you stand up to protest. In Sweden we believe too much in our politicians – that they do the right things and would not mislead us.
Yes, there is something in us that makes us very sceptical of politicians!
This is very depressing news. We have a big problem in the US with the oil business and specifically the Koch brothers that are in the process of buying our entire government. They have totally infiltrated the Republican Party, which is now a joke. I have looked into solar energy for my own home, but there simply is not enough incentive. The utility companies don’t want it because it will hurt their business model.
Alarming news about the infiltration in the Republican party…is that on people’s protesting agenda? I hope so. These things we never get informed about over here.
We have installed energy taken from the air and that works well. The entire house is run by an air source heat pump. The device needs little electricity to work, no oil.
