Sofia’s many parks offer beauty and relaxation, but also the streets and separate old houses are accompanied by trees – now in autumn clothes.
Many people in Sofia and Plovdiv care for the wild animals, birds, dogs and cats, feed them and seem to want them in their city. In one of the Sofia parks, about 5-10 dogs were lying in the grass, sleeping. Suddenly one of them heard my camera snapping and looked up. When I later uploaded the photos, I noticed his ear – he was marked. Hopefully that means the dogs are somehow supervised and taken some care of.
Finally, people also activated their own dogs and we never saw starving or badly treated animals. The conclusion is – the cats own Plovdiv, and the dogs own Sofia!

The first group of autumn photos is amazing! And seeing the dog packs like this makes me sad for some reason. I remember them from visiting neighbouring Romania. My friend who studied there said that the made friends with the pack alpha in his neighbourhood and often gave him a treat so that his gang didn’t attack him. 😦
I feel so sorry for dogs out there with no home. When we went to the Azores, ten years ago, there were packs of dogs in the city – and also loners. They did not look well kept all of them. The alpha of one of those packs took to lead us to a park – I think he liked us coming with him, and our children gave him some treats every day. We returned some 5 years later – and all the dogs were gone from the streets. I guess tourism had invaded Sao Miguel then, and people did not want the dogs around. We went to the park…to see if he was there – but he wasn’t.
Gorgeous shots, Leya. And let’s hope that someone takes care of the dogs. It looks like it is happening.
Thank you, Lucile, and yes, I hope so about the dogs. Funny way of marking? It looks more like something to close a bag with.
Intriguing to see the dogs out and about so freely.
I just hope someone is caring for them. But they all looked well nourished and healthy.
They do look well. 🙂
Fina bilder och trädet med alla grenar eller rötter är spännande.
Tack! Jag tyckte mycket om det trädet.
Great pictures! very colourful. But the post’s featured picture, in the night time, will be a scary one!
I would not walk there alone at dusk…
Exactly..!! I still remember the movie… Poltergeist from 80s 😀
🤤
