– I maybe could have become one on this journey! At the Victoria Falls Hotel I fell in love with the coffee/tea set and plates – but don’t think it would be possible to buy any of this. I guess it was designed for the hotel only.

We had excellent food everywhere and excellent service. On the train everything was so delicious, but unfortunately my stomach didn’t agree with me. I did taste everything though.

Gorgeous soups – I love soups and should indeed cook more of them at home too…
And to accompany every course we always had an excellent South African wine.

Just looking at the menue was a treat before every meal, but unfortunately we were not allowed to keep it – so, I only remember a few of the courses. This was a tender springbok.
To my husband’s great pleasure we had plenty of dreamy desserts…

One of the sweet girls from the Diner cars – I wonder how many times a day she had to walk down that narrow corridor with her hands full?
With the train moving, at least we, the passengers, got many bruises from the railings trying not to fall over.
I never forgot to praise the chef and the brilliant service staff working in this tiny kitchen. Always good humoured and a smile ready for everyone.

Adventures, big or small, are treats to everyone. We learn from them, we treasure them…but in the end, the best thing is to come back home again. Or, what do you think?
Fancy place settings! Love the parallel line teacup and saucer. Cute employee in the hall.
Thank you, Rebecca – in the comments I was given name and all of the designer!
Cool, I’ll look for that.
I think it’s a blessing and joy to have a marvelous trip and then return to a home you love. I’m happy this is true for you two.
Thank you, Janet – we are too!
Love the cup and plate! Pity that your stomach didn’t co-operate. But at least you have the pictures!
Yes, and I tasted everything…but would have wanted to eat it all!
It all looks so elegant! A shame though that you weren’t well enough to fully appreciate it. Could you perhaps have photographed the menus? It’s what I do if I want to remember everything!
Elegant it was – and we all had long dresses and the men wore elegant suits or tuxedos. In fact I couldn’t have photographed the menu, because nobody brought their camera to the diner. I didn’t see anyone except me on that train using a camera…And phones were forbidden except in our own compartment. No wifi either. That was according to the rules of Rohan Vos himself – he wanted to keep everything old style. I liked that idea!
This sounds like a fun and delicious trip!
♥
I’m not a foodie but I do love a pretty plate. Impossible to cook on a moving train! xx
True – I cannot figure out how they manage…
Such treats! I’m sorry your stomach disagreed. I remember being so puzzled as a child when grown-ups would say ‘The best part of a holiday is the coming home’. I still don’t understand it!
Well, Margaret, I usually feel I can only digest the whole thing when I work with my photos, find missing facts and relive it again. And the gratefulness for what we have at home that makes life easy!
Travel is great, new experiences, new sights maybe old memories refreshed…. but getting back home can also be a comfort. Love the food… my mouth is watering 😃
♥ I wish I had a doggy bag…to take home all that I could not eat! And, I still think it is good to be back home again. To digest a journey, I must take it easy afterwards, look at the photos, find more facts, rest in my new experiences.
Since I am the biggest foodie in the wide world – at the moment I feel pea green with envy – so not only was the dining car gorgeously and classically old-fashioned but the food presented looks totally inviting – like the look of the medium rare springbok . . . and the quality of the wineglasses 😋😊!
♥♥♥ Thought you would like it!
