Lens-Artists Challenge #182 – Interesting Objects

Patti says: ”This week, we’re exploring Interesting Objects on LAPC. I’m sure you’ve had the experience of walking through a city, the country, a museum, or a beach, for example, and something catches your eye…”

In the opener you will find a somewhat strange photo of my favourite Swedish composer – when visiting his birthplace, I found this quote – ”To fight for the Light, yes, that is the highest” – His music shines of a very special light, creating a soft nest inside you.

Here are some of my eyecatchers…

I don’t think a dog is an ”object” – but still, here is one of the most striking dog meetings I have had… I met him, when I was crossing a square in Lodz, Poland. I admired his beautiful coat, and then, suddenly, he looked straight at me – with those unforgettable eyes. Icy blue, so blue. And he was Not a Siberian Husky. Maybe a mix with one.

Ireland – an incredible coincidence that I had just read a biography about these young women and the grim fate of their children. This plate sat on a bench in a beautiful park.

A sailing lamp…found in 15th century castle Bunratty in Ireland. This must be one of the strangest lamps I have ever seen. Bunratty is the most complete and authentic castle in Ireland, and in fact there were several chandeliers with these mermaids.

Kyrkö Mosse – a ”must visit” when you come to my part of Sweden. Some hundred old cars, once collected by a dedicated man. Standing in a bog, they are all slowly sinking, and will within not too many years totally disappear.

In Tbilisi, Georgia, I found this metal oak tree with a height of 9 meters. It is located at the European square, near the entrance to Rike park.
The tree is richly decorated with fairy tale houses, birds, insects, leaves and acorns.
Made by sculptor David Monavarlisashvili, and said to personify the history of Tbilisi and the whole of Georgia.

A Short Visit to Kyrkö Mosse Again…

…on our way to Kosta Boda Art Hotel, we passed by the old cars again. There are quite some posts about them over the years, by me and visiting blogger friends Viveka (myguiltypleasures) and Sue (WordsVisual).

We just stopped for a short walk to see the changes – in fact the cars are deteriorating fast as the heavy rust make them fall apart. The old shed is now an even more dangerous place to visit as another tree has fallen over it.

In fact, as no newer cars are added to the graveyard, I believe its most glorious days will soon be over. Still I will keep an eye on them… maybe once a year, to follow the process anyway. A bit sad – but that’s the passage of time.

Thursday Thoughts – Some Nordic Magic…

Last week I, Viveka and Sue, visited Kyrkö Mosse and the cars buried there. The athmosphere here is very special, and you cannot but feel it – in your heart and bones. There is also something with the grasses, the soft, green moss and the brown rust…

…something that touches you deeply.

And it is not only the contrast of the soft againts the rough or the living against the dead or the fragrance against the decay…

This Something touches your very soul.

At least if you are Swedish or Scandinavian…

…you will feel the Magic…

It is all around you…

…and you half expect Princess Tuvstarr sitting there, gazing down into the water…

…and maybe she still is…because she, and John Bauer who once created the watercolour of her – they are both part of our national heritage. Many of us grew up with Bauer’s fantastic paintings, especially Tuvstarr and the moose Skutt.

Tiny, pretty princesses, handsome princes and noblemen, bold young lads, old witches and giant trolls of the deep forests of the North – they are all an eternal and vibrant part of Sweden´s national heritage through the genius of artist JOHN BAUER, the Art Nouveau master of Nordic mysticism.
