Mr Philo of Philosophy Through Photography is our most welcome guest host this week, and he calls for Simplicity:
”I considered selecting simplicity since the modern world is so stressful and chaotic that we are losing the fundamental clarity and simplicity that allow us to concentrate on what is really important.” Please visit his site for more inspiration!
Hopefully this post will tell you why I too believe we need more simplicity.
As I grew older, I realized that it was much better to insist on the genuine forms of nature, for simplicity is the greatest adornment of art.
— Albrecht Durer
Simplicity can be reflected in so many ways…here are a few:

I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.
— Lao Tzu

Nature is pleased with simplicity.
— Isaac Newton

Enjoy the little things,

– for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
— Robert Brault

Beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity.
– Plato

Everything is both simpler than we can imagine, and more complicated that we can conceive.
– Goethe

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.
– Confucius

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
— Leonardo da Vinci
We are looking forward to seeing your Simplicity posts, and remember to link to Philo’s original post and use the Lens-Artists tag.

Beautiful, Ann-Christine. So peaceful, simple and yet thought provoking. I love your single window, the composition makes it perfect. Also your opener and the droplets of water. This challenge was made for you.
Thank you so much for yet another lovely comment. I admit to loving this challenge…
Beautiful selections for the simplicity, AC! Love the water droplet, the clarity is incredible. The last one is very special!
Thank you, Amy, it was a good challenge!
Such beautiful, simple photos, Leya. I love the rows of whatever crop that is. The curves make it so gorgeous against the hills. 🙂
Thank you, Marsha! And it is potatoes!
mmmm It’s gorgeous and growing one of my favorite foods. 🙂 I’ve never met a potato I didn’t like!
I must agree…I am also a potato fan!
long live potatoes!
Cheers to that!
Great quotes. I like the droplets on the lily pad. The agricultural field also grabbed my attention.
Thank you so much, Marlene! I really enjoyed this challenge.
Beautiful photos!
Thank you, Aletta!
I love the beach photos and the monochrome flowers
Thank you so much, Nora!
Such lovely photos for the Simplicity challenge. And the quotes you have chosen suite each of them so well. Thank you.
Thank you, Anne! I enjoyed this challenge so much.
Very nice, Ann-Christine. Especially the monochrome tulip and the single window in the yellow wall are gorgeous 👍👍👍
Thank you, Andre – favourites with me too.
You’re welcome 😊
Marvelous simplicity photos for this week. 😀 😀
Glad you liked them! Thank you!

Beautiful post Ann-Christine. The images, as always are wonderful – really loved the droplets on the leaf in your opener. Your quotes this week are spot-on. I actually have the Brault quote posted in my office, it’s a personal favorite and was on a birthday card sent to me by a good friend.
Tina, I know I sent a comment, but I cannot see it! Again. Thank you so much, and I remember you had that quote too.
Thank you for sharing these marvels, AC.
There are no words to express it!
What a visual pleasure!
You haven’t even given me the option of picking a fave!
I’m saving all of the quotations you mentioned.
Water droplets educate us about the basic beauties that surround us.
Every one of your images tells us a wonderful narrative!
Your photographs all serve the same goal. That is…our mind is tranquil, and we have attained ‘Nirvana.’
Thank you so much for sharing these visual treasures!
You are very kind, thank you so much! It was a beautiful challenge!
🙏🙏🙏
Simple photos, and I have a favorite, the wall with the small, simple window. I call it an example of a fine art image.
Thank you, John, for a lovely comment!
Simplicity makes for excellent images. A beautiful set, Ann-Christine. I’m especially struck by the lily pads with their graceful pattern and the leaf with droplets- can’t resist a good nature closeup. 🙂
Thank you, Jane! Much appreciated. The lily pads is one of my favourites.
Dear Ann-Christine
simplicity is timeless. Nowadays simplicity governs our live with just the two digits 1 and 0 of our computer programs. That shows us that simplicity is often hidden but we can find it everywhere. That’s what Okham’s razor is all about.
We like especially your first and last picture
The Fab Four of Cley
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you – and yes, hidden it is. We constantly look for it, but often cannot find it.
I would have guessed that you would come up with some great shots for this theme! They’re all excellent but my favourites are that first one of the leaf and raindrops (exquisite!) and that yellow wall (so vibrant, and perfectly composed).
Thank you, Sarah. The yellow wall is an all time favourite!
Great photos, great quotes. I’m all for a simple life.
Thank you, Jude. And I wish life was even more simple than it is…
Lovely post of simplicity
❤️
LOve the leaf with droplets and the yellow wall. The monochrome header works well also.
Thank you, Ritva! Monochrome is beautiful. I should use it more often.
Wonderful examples. In a crowded field of great images, I’m drawn to that yellow wall. So characterful.
Thank you, Margaret. That was a lucky shot in a back street in Spain.
Such a Spanish colour! I have a similar shot.
A Spanish colour indeed! You have?
Yes. The plaster was peeling away and some clever wag had transformed the gash of missing paint into a charmingly hungry-looking crocodile 😉
😁
Stunning
❤️
Is there anything more beautiful than birds flying south? And I don’t know why but that last image is just so arresting, even to me, who doesn’t like the cold.
Thank you, Jo, I agree about the birds. And I love the winter light in the last one too. We get that very seldom now, so…💙
🤗🩵
Lovely post Ann-Christine! Your images are beautiful and the quotes you picked to go with them are perfect. I love the soft-muted colors and the simplicity in your last image.
Thank you, Anne! I am glad you enjoyed them, and the last one had that special winter light.
😊
Simply wonderful!
These lovely pictures and their accompanying quotes are just so amazing 🙂
I am pleased you liked them, Hammad, thank you!
Great set: from the header to the last, especially the nature photos and the yellow wall. Simply enjoyed them all.
I am glad you enjoyed them, I.J. Thank you!
Great photos, great great quotes. Excellent.
Thanks, John!
I agree and thank you for such beautiful photos.
Thank you too❤️
Excellent images as always, Ann-Christine, worthy of that quote from Da Vinci.
And I agree with Goethe.
Thank you, Nes, much appreciated.
Outstanding photos and stories. I loved them.
You are very kind, thank you!
Methinks one has not reached maturity until one is satisfied with simplicity . . . for me that took a while to arrive 🙂 ! Beautiful photos, memorable words . . . thank you!
I think it takes a big chunk of life and living for most of us to reach that. Thank you, dear Eha.
And I come away with a deep breath. Thank you. The water droplets so delicately resting on the leaf is a message in itself. I love all your photos. The meandering crops, and snowy road are quiet even to look at. Harmony? Yes. Does the girl on the road even realize she is just meant to be there?
Yes, the little things ARE the big things …always.
💚 I always love your comments. They are harmony to me, Donna. Thank You.
Welcome…

Beautiful, A-C. I especially loved the header monochrome flower, the window I’m the yellow wall, and the last one. We used some of the same quotes. 🥰. I think life is so busy now that simple photos can help us relax and focus.
Thank you, Janet. And you are right about relaxing and simple photos. Works with me.
