Thursday Thoughts – The yearly visit to Wanås

My dear friend Viveka (of Myguiltypleasures) and I went to Wanås Castle – we usually do once a year. And we enjoy the art and our delicious meal, chatting along together.

If you like outdoor exhibitions – and surpises – let’s go!

Carola Grahn is the new artist this year, and she deals with Sami art and beliefs.

The giant boxes with logs at the entrance were impressive, but then the glassed wall was our first stop – at the sight of the blue mountain.

This is a rather impressive size of art work for the little pond, but we liked it. You can read about the artist’s idea below in the gallery.

The natural theme as well as the Sami connections were ever present. The ”building” made of birches shows a free interpretation of a sign on a Sami sacred drum.

Thank you for being our lovely company here at Wanås, and hopefully you want a new tour next year!

    • Thank you, I am happy to have met her again too! If you want to send her a greeting through me and my ”wish tree” (read in the comments) I am planning – please send me an email and I will hang the message in her tree!

  1. I didn’t know you were friends with Viveka, but it makes sense. She is such a lovely person. Seventy-five sounds younger every year. Yikes! I love the little birch house, Leya. The structure in the pond is very different. Why did they put glass around it?

    • You have a lot of favourite places beautifully photographed – I don’t have tht many, but yes, I believe we all have these, thank you!

    • She is a tough one, still going strong! And Jo, she’s turning 75 in September, and I am planning a surprise for her. What I would like to have is a personal wish tree concept with notes from everyone who misses her. Because i can see many of us do! You could send it/mail it to me and I will buy a little tree to hang them from. I know she loves the wish trees at Wanås, set up by Yoko Ono. What do you say?

  2. I loved the art and the idea that is behind it. Nature is our most important treasure and we have lost all connections with it. Now there is finaly a change in thinking and acting since climate change and loss of bio diversity can not be denied anymore.

  3. Hello to Vivi and love the Sami art and so wish I could have walked some of the way with you . . . this is kind’of soul art for me . . . love . . . 🙂 !
